Norwich - Home of the Navigators
"New England Baseball Road Trip Stop #4"
Norwich was the fourth city on my New England minor league baseball road trip. And let me just say that I don't think I'll ever go back, not even for the baseball. I had a rough map of the Norwich Heritage Walk. It took me about an hour to find the entrance. Nobody I asked had even heard of the thing. And basically it was a walk that sometimes went along a really murky "river" but mostly went through the back yards of people's homes. I really didn't experience any sort of Norwich heritage except I got a bunch of mosquito bites.
Not to focus on the negative, let's switch to a happier topic: baseball. The Norwich Navigators, a AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, play at Dodd Stadium, which is located waaaaaaaay up in the winding hills of an industrial park (you're definitely going to want to drive there).
Up until a few years ago, the Navigators were a Yankee farm team, so a lot of the fans were not so happy to see my newly-purchased Red Sox visor. Their mascot, Tater the Gator, even tried to bite it off my head.
