Just curious

by phylly57

How did Chapman road get it's name? that happens to be my last lame and I'll be working on chapman road very soon.

Re: Just curious

In the UK it is one of those "occupational" names derived- obviously - from an occupation. In this case it was associated with a peripatetic or itinerant salesman, and may be linked to the German Kaufmann.
On the other hand it could be linked to rural/agricultural clothing and stem from the makers of "chaps" but I have yet to find that explanation - though it is the one I like best!

When used as a road name (there are lots of Chapman Roads in the UK, and I'm sure it's the same in the US) it is most often named after someone who was important in the town at the time the road was built (mayor, politician, businessperson, rich person, sportsperson, doctor, vicar etc etc etc). Same with lots of other road names.

Blue Hen Football 1-AA National Champs 2003

by ajwalks

The University of Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens compete in the Atlantic 10 conference in I-AA college football. The program has a rich history, including legendary coach Tubby Raymond who retired in 2002 with 300 wins. Delaware Stadium. New head coach K.C. Keeler took over the reigns in 2002, and brought home the first national 1-AA title in 2003.

Delaware Stadium, erected in 1952 and enlarged prior to the 1964, 1970, 1972 and the 1975 seasons, is one of the finest facilities of its kind in the East and one of the top on-campus facilities in all of NCAA I-AA football. The 22,000-seat stadium received a new look in Summer 2000 as eight poles of permanent broadcast-quality lights were installed by Musco Lighting. In addition, the South End Zone bleachers were replaced. Bring your tailgating equipment, you're in Blue Hen Football Country.
