Neighborhoods

Every little neighborhood has a name and a personality. Trolley Square (centered around the 1800 block of Delaware Avenue) has one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. The merchants association is trying to take it to the next level, and make Trolley Square a destination like New Hope, PA. Farther up Delaware Avenue is the Highlands, a residential neighborhood, with some very impressive residences near Rockford Park and the Art Museum (which is under renovation). Back down toward I-95 are some old mid-1800's three story brick houses in an area known as "Happy Valley". It was probably happier before I-95 went through. Across Pennsylvania Avenue is the well-preserved Victorian neighborhood of Cool Spring. Everyone's holding their breath for Ship's Tavern, a big redevelopment project involving 19th century buildings downtown near the train station. Johnny's Super Market

8th & Maryland Ave, you will find the best home made kielbasa! Johnny's Supermarket, in the Kaminski family for more than 50 years, is famous in Delaware for its kielbasa and is still a Maryland Avenue landmark. We like garlic and onion. Yum, Yum, they line up around the block at Christmas and Easter for this table tradition.

Named after their Irish grandmothers....ahh how can you not love that? Family, history, devotion, it has it all in an Irish Pub, Trendy way. Irish Pubs are a local thing, lots of Irish folks in this state. They have lots of good food, try the nachos and an apple martini!
A hidden Ethiopian coffeeshop

This unique café is hidden inside Sacred Heart Village, an apartment complex for seniors on the edge of the Trinity Vicinity neighborhood. Just tell the security guard at the door that you’re here for the coffee. And what coffee it is! The owner is Ethiopian, and they take their coffee seriously. They also offer some seriously delicious pastries, baked goods, soups, and sandwiches. Alan’s personal favorite isn’t on the menu: they have a stash of chai (spiced tea) from Madagascar that they serve with steamed milk.
