alachua is a small town located 10 miles north of gainesville florida. alachua was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1905. near alachua is the largest hare krishna community in north america. sadly this charming town is by passed by most tourists going to and from florida on I-75. located one mile east of the I-75 exit is main street in the historic district of alachua. main street offers a number of historic buildings, restaurants, and gift stores. about 15 miles west of alachua is beautiful ichetucknee springs state park.
