Best Ribs in Boca
by nicolaitan about Lucille's "Bad to the Bone"
It seems like every week I spend in Boca includes at least one meal at Lucille's. Actually I can't stand ribs, hate barbecue sauce, and won't even discuss what passes for barbecue in S. Florida. I am usually either outvoted or to tired to argue with all my friends who swear that these are the best ribs and barbecue-sauced chicken anywhere. Decor can be anticipated - license plates on the walls, shelves filled with various hot sauces. Service is predictably haphazard. The beer list (no, no martinis) includes such upscale favorites as Coors Light and Budweiser. Fortunately, they make a passable hamburger and decent fries so I have something to eat too. Entrees $14-22. Note - at least one night a week there is an all-you-can-eat special and on Wednesday night "kids eat free". The noise level is deafening on these nights. But I will admit - the staff is extremely child-friendly and accomodating for the younger diners. Also note - everyone agrees that the coffee is just awful. my fellow diners love the ribs.

"boca raton"
boca raton was first discovered by spanish explorers. it's name boca raton is commonly translated as "rat's mouth" or "rocky inlet". the area around boca raton was sparcely inhabited until the florida land boom of the 1920's. in 1903 the yamato colony west of boca raton was founded by jo sakai. sakai recruited farmers from his home town of miyazu japan to work on his pineapple plantation. during WWII the colony was disbanded and the yamato land confiscated by the federal government. after the war a small part of the original yamato plantation was farmed by george morikami until the 1970's. the architect and real estate developer addison mizner had a huge impact on the architecture and development of boca raton during the 1920's. numerous examples of his mediterranean inspired homes and buildings can be seen in palm beach and boca raton. today boca raton is a upscale winter tourist resort area and is part of the west palm beach-miami urban sprawl. boca raton has much to offer the tourist, a beautiful beach, excellent off shore sport fishing, world class golf courses, fine dining, and interesting mediterranean architecture. boca raton is one of the nicest beach towns in southeast florida.
addison mizner (1872-1933) was a famous south florida architect and real estate developer during the florida land boom in the 1920's. his style of architecture was inspired by the mediterranean villas of italy and spain. during the 1920's he designed homes for the wealthy in palm beach and boca raton. some examples are el mirasil 1919, villa flora 1921, la guerida 1923. today much of the architecture of south florida is mizner inspired.

I had the pleasure to visit Boca in May of this year. I stayed at the Boca Resort and Club. It was the most beautiful, relaxing vacation I have ever had. It was just what I needed from a hectic life. I actually had tears in my eyes when I left. I am trying to plan and get a quick break from life again in July between semesters to be able to go back. The resort was beautiful within itself and you really do not have to leave the compound to be thoroughly impressed by this place. I love Florida. I love Boca Raton. I will go back. I may ven move there.
