Travel Tips for Bonita Springs

This is Golf Territory (If you can afford it!)

by deecat

We lugged our golf clubs to Florida with the hopes of golfing three times a week for one month; however, because (during the "Snowbird season) the fees are so expensive, we only golfed twice in the entire month.

We found that most of the courses are private, and the ones that are open to the public are either too far away, too expensive, or too poorly maintained to enjoy.

We did golf at BONITA FAIRWAYS in Bonita Springs:
9751 West Terry Street
(239-947-9100)

It is an executive golf course of 3400 yards, par 61 and designed by Gordon Lewis.

It does challenge and improve your short game, but you have very little use for long woods. There are seven Par 4's; the remainder are Par 3's. The front nine features Florida-style hills and valleys, sand traps and several small waterholes. The back nine has larger waterholes, sand traps, doglegs, and they are all surrounded by a nature preserve. It has a Bonita Fairway's Cafe for lunch and drinks.

This small course cost $35.00 plus tax per person.
The course was in good shape and the personnell was quite friendly.

The second course we played on was called
Hunter's Ridge in Bonita Springs. It was a much larger and better course. We had a coupon cut from the paper and it still cost $55.00 plus tax per person. We enjoyed this course much better. You need a full set of golf clubs, a couple of dozen balls, golf umbrella, golf ball retriever, golf glove, golf shoes without metal spikes, and traveling case for transporting on the airlines.

Most all the courses require appropriate dress, which means shirt with a collar and shorts just above the knee. (no cut-offs and no tank tops!)

Bonita Beach and Bonita Springs.

"Bonita Beach."

My cousins and I used to vacation here for about a month each year from when we were about 7 till we were about 22. So I felt like I have grown up here. So before our trip in 2004 the last time I had been here was 1994. Let me tell you, things have changed tremendously.
What used to be small beach houses and bungalos are now 2 million dollar condos and giant expensive beach houses.
All I can say is , WOW!!! Really beautiful area, with a fantastic, beautiful beach. Lots of room , perfect for families, nice and quiet.
It is also only a 5 min drive from Bonita Springs. Love this place, and since my parents just bought a place in Bonita Springs we will definately be seeing this beach again.

"Great place for a sceneic walk."

They have a great bike/walking path, where you can leisurely walk around and look at all the beautiful houses that you'll never be able to afford, hahaha.

"Too much fun."

We had such a great time at the beach, Leonora and I figured we'd stop for refreshments at the local deli and go for a nice long walk.
As you can see Xyrus and Xivik didn't last long at all. Pretty much put them in the stroller, walked across the street, bought our drinks and they were out like lights.
