chipley is a small town located in northwest florida. chipley is the county seat of washington county florida. chipey was named after william d. chipley in 1882. william chipley was a northwest florida railroad tycoon and later became a florida state senator. chipley was also a lt. colonel in the confederate army and fought at shiloh, chickamauga, and the battle of atlanta. of interest to the tourist is chipley's 3 rd street historic district which is a u.s designated historical district. also just south of chipley is beautiful falling waters state park. for those interested in nature and southern architecture chipley is a nice side trip when traveling on I-10 between tallahassee and pensacola.
