Harborview Center

If you are looking to plan an event in the greater Tampa Bay area, then you will likely consider Clearwater because of the Harborview Center. It is located right on the shore of the water in Clearwater, and has quite a bit of free parking as well as a large number of paid parking slots near it. There were several large ballrooms and meeting rooms located in this facility, as well as access to a couple shops and sandwich places within walking distance.

We hosted a multiple room event that held around 200 people, and it was a very nice place to hold it.

Things to do and avoid in clearwater

"Cearwater Beach"

Perhaps the biggest draw to Florida are the beaches. Clearwater has some of the finest stretch of beaches anywhere in the world. First there is Clearwater beach. Very tourist oriented beach. Although you have your normal "locals" bars also. One bar that is a must stop is called the "ShipWreck". It is located on the north beach side away from the hotels and closer to residential areas. This is on of the oldest bars on this beach. It is rustic (old and smelly), but the atmosphere is great! Good locals wiling to welcome tourists. The patrons are a rough crowd at times, but it is a must see. Go there late (after 11pm) and the bar is packed with people ranging in age from 21-80 years old and everyone there is out for a good time. If you like a laid back florida bar, this is your place. There are also many other bars and restaurants conviently located closer to the hotels such as Frechy's. There are three Frenchy's on Clearwater beach, but the best one has to be Frenchy's Rockaways which is located directly on the beach and you can sit and have drinks and dinner with the sunsets.

Thalor's trip to Clearwater

I visited Clearwater, Florida for a week back in late 1998. I stayed at the Homestead Inn there, which was very reasonably priced. The fact it had a full kitchen included in the room and still the rate was low had me completely bowled over.

The weather was warm. Very pleasant considering the DC area was already getting a bit chilly.

My allergies, which had hardly bothered me in over a decade went absolutely nuts - off and on - while I was there. One day it would be fine, then I would have a runny nose - then half day later I would be fine again. Kind of weird. I assumed it was the pollen but never figured out why it would stop and go so much.

While I was in town an acquaintance took me to the original Hooters restaurant.

I was pretty busy while I was in town but I did like what I saw.
