Honeymoon!
by huntert_77
I will be coming there March 12, 2006 for my honeymoon. I realize it will be busy with SpringBreakers and was wondering if anyone had some advice about what to do there(where to eat, shop, relax, have fun). I want to make the most of my trip and would also like to get away from the crowds a day or two. Thanks.

Um, you're going to be swamped with spring breakers. The best thing to do is tend towards the north side of the beach. Walk up a bit and you'll be alongside a residential area, and even farther along it's just dunes, and at the north end of the island is a sandbar connecting you to pristine (and almost always empty) Caledesi state park.
But other than that, Clearwater and all the Pinellas beaches further south will be packed in. There are some good beach-fare restaurants (the 3 locations of Frenchie's probably being he best), but you'll probably want to get off the island once and a while to eat or whatever. This will be the first spring break season for the new bridge linking Clearwater Beach to mainland Clearwater, so hopefully traffic will be better than the bumper-to-bumper snarl that used to build up at that time.
BTW, congrats! ;-)
Travel Tips for Clearwater

I really enjoyed Clearwater Beach. The day we were there, the waves were very strong. The water was cooler than further south at Treasure Island. We were there on on Saturday so there were a lot of people there. If you want to get a close parking space and one of the unbrellas you must get there early.

Favorite BBQ: Fred Flemming's (several locations).
This is a casual table-service restaurant. Shorts/jeans and t-shirts are fine. Good value for dinner. No reservations needed, and service is quick. Take-out available. Chopped (or 'pulled') pork sandwich/platter is made with very lean roasted pork, finely chopped, then lightly coated with BBQ sauce. Reliably excellent.
Spoon Corn Bread - a signature dish here, this is a very moist corn bread, with whole kernel corn in it, topped with melted cheddar cheese. This is a true side dish - not just a bread item. Like a corn fritter, somewhat.
CLEARWATER BEACH

"ONE VISIT HERE AND YOU WILL BE "HOOKED""
I kept hearing about the fabulous beach at Clearwater, but it was only when I actually visited it that I understood. This is no small beach.
It is a couple blocks wide.....you walk and walk to get to the Gulf.
The sand is like white powder and the waters of the Gulf are calm and warm. There are lots of public parking lots which take gold dollar coins in the parking meters. You can swap you one dollar bills in a machine which gives out the gold one dollar coins. One dollar will buy you one hour on the meter. There is a cute little restaurant right on the beach where you can sit in your bathing suit and enjoy lunch and refreshments, all the while having a view of the Gulf. Frenchy's Restaurant has 5-6 such establishments along the coast. South of Clearwater beach is Fort Desoto Beach and park and I will post some photos of that. I currently do not have any Clearwater photos to post. Check out the Ft. Desoto photos.

I have worked in Clearwater Florida for the last 9+ years. I work as a firefighter/ paramedic, so there are not too many places that I haven't been to in this city. Hopefully as this page progresses, I will be able to share with you some of the good ( and also the not so good) things about this City and the area. I hope that the information I share can be enjoyable and usefull.
