More about Marriott Suites Clearwater Beach on Sand Key
I was more than I expected --- we loved it!
Just returned from 6 nights at the Marriott Sand Key. I did alot of research on where to stay in the Clearwater/St. Pete area and found all the reviews of the Marriott Sand Key to be really helpful. Traveled with my husband and 9 year old son, we had a fabulous time. The room was great, we had the private balony overlooking the intercoastal. I am glad we did that instead of overlooking the pool, we saw dolphins most days from the balony. The pool area was excellent, service was excellent and really pleasant! We especially loved the boardwalk, it was really convenient to go and have breakfast by the water, pick up a few groceries, or pool toys or have a really great dinner... all without ever having to get in a car. I was worried about on being on the beach, but it really never mattered. The pool area of the Marriott is "way, way, way better" than the Sheraton which is on the beach. You can walk over to the beach within a matter of minutes and do all the "beaching" that you want. We went "shelling" a few of the days, which was a highlight for our son and found the beach clean, beautiful and plentiful with shells. We also did the Pirate ship cruise in Clearwater at sunset and it was fabulous! We would stay at the Marriott again in a 'heartbeat", we all miss the pool, sun and fun. Oh yeah, and the bedding was really comfortable which is always an added bonus when traveling! Go to this hotel and you won't go wrong....we loved it!
Great time for teenagers
We stayed at the Marriott/Radison early last summer. We stayed a total of 5 nights. We have two teenage daughters and they loved the boardwalk shops and restaurants. We had a wonderful time. The rooms were fine. A little too high up, but great view for watching the dolphins each day.
Our room had a little leak at the sink, we called room service and it was taken care of immediately. The rooms were cleaned each day and the service was great! The pool was fun and there seemed to be always plenty of towels and drink service. We would stay there again.
Stayed at the Marriott on Sand Key from 4/17 through 4/23 and the weather was absolutely beautiful, as was the resort. There are only 2 resorts on Sand Key, the Marriott and the Sand Key and they are across from each other. You won't go wrong staying in either of these top-rated resorts. The Marriott has larger rooms because they are a suite hotel and the view overlooks the bay, which is breathtaking. The pool is very large with waterfalls. The only complaint I have is that because the pool is so large, that makes less space for chairs. They have alot of chairs, but they are crammed together. Beautiful, clean and very brightly decorated rooms. We walked across the street to the Sheraton's beach and rented cabanas when we wanted to beach it ($20.00). The money was well worth it - great breeze and nice clean beach. We went into Clearwater Beach a couple of nights for dinner and were so glad we did not stay there - very noisy. So you have the best of both worlds - you can stay on Sand Key and sleep undisturbed, but still hop on the trolley and go into Clearwater Beach at night for some fun!
Great for Kids
Stayed at the Marriott on Sand Key from 4/10 - 4/17/2003 and although the weather wasn't great the Marriott and the staff were excellent. I have used TripAdvisor for my last three trips and have taken the travelers advice and every time it has been good advice. The rooms and hotel have just been remodeled and everything looked very clean. The bathroom was a little small but the rooms are all suites and we had ample room. The balcony was big enough to sit on (several chairs) and you had a great view of the pool. The pool was big and had a great waterfall. They had tons of things to do for kids and even had a movie one night out by the pool. The Marriott seems to want to go out of their way to do things and accommodate you. They do have a laundry room and if you went at an odd time you could have 2-3 washers to yourself but other times you had to wait in line. The hotel is across the street from the beach (and the Sheraton) and although we thought this would be a problem -- it wasn't. There is a pathway right next to the Sheraton and you can easily walk (about 5 minutes to the beach). I agree with others when saying Clearwater Beach was very, very crowded and staying at Sand Key was a much better idea. You are away from the crowds and terrible traffic problems but still very close to everything. We explored Sand Key and the other areas surrounding it and had a great time. I would definitely stay here again.
Big rooms, average otherwise
I stayed at this Marriott on business for five days. The pool was nice, but if you are looking for a hotel with a sandy beach this is not it -- there is sand, but not the kind you would want to sit on. The Sheraton is right accross the street and has a beautiful beach, this hotel does not. I liked the spacious room, and they appear to be recently renovated. This hotel is a little off of the main tourist area, but I like that. You need to drive to the restaurants and shopping areas.
Nice hotel for relaxing
Just got back from 4 relaxing days at the Marriot Suites on Sand Key. The hotel is very nicely renovated, and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The resident Macaw, Lisa, even said a few words to us.
We had a two room suite, with louvre doors seperating the bedroom from the bathroom and living room area. The living room area had a sofa, TV, coffee maker, sink, small fridge and a microwave. The extra TV was great for couples where one wants to stay up and watch TV and the other doesn't. Housekeeping was a little over zealous in trying to do our room first thing in the morning but otherwise did a great job. Our balcony overlooked the pool and the bay and had two chairs and a small table.
The outside hallway was open to the street side, so there was not a lot of the normal hotel hallway noise and the street noise was not too bad.
We spent hours at the pool, which was nice and clean with nice waterfalls. We had no problem getting towels, and they even left extra towels out after the stand closed. The bar is also right next to the pool. The drinks seemed a little pricey (about $7 each) but they were well worth it.
We did not eat at the restaurant, as it seems a little too formal for our casual vacation. However, the Shops at Sand Key have a great Cuban restaurant, Columbia, and there is also a little breakfast place, Maggie Mae's, that was good and cheap. There is also a Dunkin Donuts for a quick java fix.
We took the short drive to Sand Key Park or the main part of Clearwater when we wanted to beach it. The parking was pretty cheap ($1. to 1.50 per hour) so we didn't mind.
This hotel is a great place to relax just off the main part of Clearwater.
Service Above and Beyond!
For our first vacation with our 2yr old daughter we wanted to stay somewhere that would treat us right. Wow, did the Marriott deliver - and then some. They were tripping over themselves to provide outstanding service. It actually became a running joke with my wife and I about how the over the top silly the service could get. Like providing a crib for my daughter to nap - and then calling to make sure we got the crib, and waking her up. Or booking us a dolphin viewing cruise, and then not letting us actually go until they called and verified that the boat wasn't broken. Or at checkin when the one lady behind the counter walked away to give a tour of the lobby to the people who'd checked in before me, leaving me standing there. Fun!
The room was excellent, a true suite with a door between rooms (parents of babies appreciate that come naptime). On the courtesy ride to the beach they provided some toys for our daughter to play with. The pool is beautiful with waterfall, kiddie pool, hot tub, and live entertainment. A blue and gold macaw named Lisa lives in the lobby and is guaranteed to keep the kids occupied all week. Even the breakfast buffet was outstanding -- gotta love it when the OJ comes with the buffet price, including refills!
Couple quick things. It's not "on the beach" by any definition I know. You're looking at a courtesy drive down the street, or a good 10 minute walk (cutting through the backyard of another hotel). No biggie, we hung at the pool. Second, for a hotel that puts "wired for business" right on the room key, I thought the net access would be better. Ten bucks a day? Just roll it into the price of the room and tell me it's free, people. And the "business center" is just a desk with a printer and a high speed port. Wait your turn behind the guy reading the news.
All and all an outstanding trip. Excellent staff, always very courteous and friendly. I'd stay again in a heartbeat.
Our family of four (children ages 6 and 4) just spent five nights here and were very pleased. The room was tastefully decorated and very clean. Countertops were granite. Wall art was well above average. Beds had down comforters and pillows. Having young children, we appreciated the suite's microwave, refrigerator, and two televisions. Pool access was good, too. No need to worry about wearing swimsuits through the lobby, because the pool was just off the elevators. My only complaint is that the bathroom was a bit small. Our children loved the pool area and made full use of the waterfalls, pool, hot tub, play equipment, and great supply of new friends. They also found Lisa, the lobby macaw, very entertaining. We rode the hotel shuttle cart to the beach and received complimentary bottles of water and beach toys for the children. If you have young children, we recommend riding the shuttle instead of walking. Before our trip we considered staying at the Sheraton across the street because it was directly on the beach but we're glad we didn't! It's a really long walk to the shoreline (at least a few city blocks of sand). Besides that, the Sheraton's rooms are smaller and their pool bland in comparison. As for dining, we ate poolside, along the boardwalk, and also drove to a couple of seafood restaurants, P.J.'s Oyster Bar and Guppy's. Ate at P.J.'s twice. We definitely recommend Marriott Suites and would stay there again. I hope this review is helpful.
Do It! Do It!
Great Hotel! The suites are roomy and by opening the blinds on each end of the suite you can view the bay and beach. The Sand Key area appears as an upscale Clearwater Beach location without all the cheesy souvenir shops and convenience stores. The negative for some might be that you have to drive to be in the middle of the Clearwater Beach crowd but for a family or couple it is a positive. Stay away from rooms on the northern end of the hotel due to the building’s huge AC fan constantly running which distracts from the desired sounds of seagulls and bay activities as you sit on the balcony.
This hotel sits on the bay which involves a walk across the street and through another hotel property to get to the beach. The Marriott also provides a shuttle every half hour to and from the beach for those who don’t want to walk across the street. The beaches are less crowded yet you still have the feeling of being close to the action.
The waterfall landscaped pool has an outdoor thatched roof bar and grill overlooking the bay. The hotel is connected to a boardwalk along the bay with restaurants and shops. Get a homemade style breakfast at Maggie Mae’s on the boardwalk for a great price and view. Rent wave runners, kayaks or go parasailing from a rental shop right on the hotel property. We sat out on our balcony each day and watched dolphins and stingrays swimming in the bay.
We will definitely stay again if we vacation to Clearwater Beach
