just north of downtown clearwater is the charming town of dunedin. dunedin has a very nice historic downtown area and just west of town is honeymoon island and caladesi island state parks. these two gulf beach state parks offer beautiful unspoiled beaches, fishing, and nature trails. dunedin is a very worth while side trip from clearwater. to get to dunedin take US 19ALT about 4 miles north to dunedin. from dunedin take SR 586 west to honeymoon island and caladesi island. see my dunedin pages for more information.
fort harrison hotel

the fort harrison hotel is a historic building in downtown clearwater. the hotel was built in 1926 and for decades was the most luxurious hotel in clearwater. during WWII the fort harrison hotel was used to house U.S. solders training in the clearwater area. in 1965 the rock group the rolling stones wrote their famous song "(i can't get no) satisfaction while staying at the fort harrison. in 1975 the flag land base, a part of the church of scientology, bought the fort harrison hotel and today it is a dormatory and classroom complex for scientologists. not open to the public.
Clearwater Beach, Florida

This is one of the few trips we have made into the USA. We flew to Tampa on United at stayed at the Parker Manor Motel in Clearwater Beach.
We went for Christmas and the weather was in the main quite warm and pleasant.
