Packing List

This is a very casual area. Most restaurants allow shorts, and at those that don't, khakis and a collared shirt would be fine. Some nightclubs may not allow tank tops, sneakers. SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN, SUNSCREEN! Waterproof is best - one of the 'sport' recipes is what I prefer. Sunglasses are also essential, and a hat isn't a bad idea if you're out in the sun all day (i.e. on a boat or beach). If you have plans to be outside in the evening, mosquito repellant may be useful. But if you forget any of these things, there are tons of grocery, drug, and discount stores around. If you are going to the beach, a pair of inexpensive 'surf moccasins' are a good idea. Some beach areas have rocks/shells that you need to get thorough before reaching the sand bottom in deeper water. (These 'ouch' zones shift from year to year due to storms and water currents.) Pack a little bag to tote your lotions, towels, etc. to the beach. Also, zipper-close plastic bags are great for shells, wet swimsuits, leaky suntan oil, etc..

Beaches
Our award-winning beaches on the Gulf of Mexico have been rated among the
most beautiful and most fun in the world. In fact, Clearwater Beach was
rated number 2 in the U.S. by Conde Cast Traveler for best city amenities.
Shelling, jogging, walking, beach sports like beach volleyball, or just
lounging in the sun are favorite activities.
Caladesi Island
Ranked as one of the top three beaches in the United States, Caladesi
Island has more than two miles of white sand beach on the Gulf. Caladesi
is accessible by ferry departing hourly from Honeymoon Island, as well as

perfect for fishing, picknicking, boating, shelling, swimming, strolling
or just plan relaxing. The park offers a nature trail, natural vegetation,
abundant bird life, and interpretive programs. For more information,

Department has prepared a document that includes a map showing the
locations of beach parking lots plus information about parking rates. The
beach is served by the Jolley Trolley. Parasailing, jet skis, and sailboat
rentals are available north of Pier 60.
Honeymoon Island
Sunbathing, swimming in the clear gulf water, fishing in both the surf and
Hurricane Pass, picnicking and nature studies are popular activities.

"Best Friends"
So... After World Cup Saturday Semi's... Brasil plays crappy... Carey and I make the drive in ... like no time at all ... to Clearwater... fueled by expensive gas and Brahma beer and Caiparinhas (probably a no no, but DAMN, why did Brasil have to play SOOO poorly?!?!)...
We make it there a little worse for wear by around 9:30pm. Chris, our host greets us and takes us to dinner... But first... our lovely mugs...
"Lovely Sand"
You can rent cabanas and chill, or find a few tiki bars on the beach. Not many, but there is one in front of the Hilton. Good bars across the street make GREAT drinks.
