A Nice Place to Honeymoon

I stayed here on my honeymoon when I lived in Tampa. We didnt have a lot of time to get away and this sufficed for a great weekend. Its within driving distance of all the major attractions in Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater. Everything is at most a 30 min drive depending on the traffic. Rush hours across the bay area bridges can be awful.

Basically....
A lovely hotel directly over looking the Gulf Of Mexico and Clearwater Pass. Comfortable clean rooms with great views. The hotel staff were freindly and pleasent.

Unique Quality: Large swimming pool. Cable TV. Non-smoking rooms available. A short stroll to Clearwater Beach. Lots of shopping and restaurants in the area within walking distance.

Waffel house is downstairs convienent for breakfast.

More about Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites Clearwater Beach

this hotel is perfectly fine

by TripAdvisor Member nacrsatmsncom

i went to florida to visit my girlfriend who had moved two years previously. we wanted to stay on the beach and someplace with nightlife so we wouldnt have to drive. the name has now been changed to the clearwater gulfview resort which allows for some confusion as there or two or three other places with the same words but in different order. but anyway we decided to stay at shephards because we heard it was a great place to party. they only had availability for two of the three nights we were staying but mgmt. gave me the number to the gulfview. i have to say this hotel was completely adequate. we stayed in room 312 and had a partial gulfview. the manager was really nice and reduced my price for the room because i had requested a gulf view but they did not have one. all of the front desk staff was very friendly and extremely helpful. the room was clean and the furnishings and carpet were like new. there were no bugs or noisy neighbors. the balcony was nice if windy and they could probably use some new patio furniture. all in all it was a great hotel and i would not hesitate to go back or recommend it to a friend. if you are looking for a 5 star this is not it but it is quite nice. easy access to the action at shephards!!!!!!

Excellent hotel.

Me my wife and our two children stayed here for eleven nights and i must say and was a bit hesitant after reading some of the reviews, but how wrong can you be the front desk staff where freindly and helpful, and the room we where given was very clean with new beds and new carpet, the view was second to none and the whole experience was heavenly.

I was not looking forward to staying at this hotel in fact we tried to change it before we left the uk, the hotel was fine very friendly staff very clean and the bar/resturant area was fantastic what a view, what a place to watch the sun go down, and the dolphins used to swim right past the bar which was fantastic

Much better than the (old) reviews!

by TripAdvisor Member sahmomof3

This hotel was much better than the reviews from April!

The room was very clean. Though we didn't get to face the pool, we did get a view of the ocean from the other side. We were there only two nights: Memorial Day and the day before. We bought our reservations off a site here at TripAdvisor and paid a fraction of the price! ($75 a night as opposed to $175 from the hotel, and that included all taxes and fees).

The carpet and bedding looked new. The restroom looked a little old, but it was kept very clean. This is a very suitable hotel for most anyone, especially for those with small children. The baby pool is large enough and kept very clean as was the larger pool. My two year old spent most his time there.

However, I don't recommend anyone with families coming to Clearwater on Memorial Day. Too many kids acting nutty on the streets. Yelling profanity left and right. Any other time I'm sure it's fine. I will say Clearwater has changed since I was last here five years ago.

We had a blast!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My girlfriends & I just returned from a "girls-weekend" and we had a blast. We were a bit nervous after reading some of these bad reviews, but we just figured we would have fun anyway since we would all be together.
The front desk was great! "Tia" was awesome! And anything we asked for was taken care of immediately. Jimmy Iganua's was wonderful. We spent alot of time there. There was music at night & those guys were very nice & alot of fun. The food was very good as well. And then if you wanted a little bit more crazy & upbeat you just had to walk across the parking lot to Sheppards.
We checked out a couple other places for dinner and it was only a $5.00 cab ride, not too bad. (The Trolley thing never seemed to come, and when it did it wasn't going where we were. Not worth the wait!)
The only complaints we had was the misleading "on the beach" part. We stayed here because we thought we were "only steps away from white sand" (there was a pile of sand over by Sheppard's wave rental that smelled like raw sewage. Is this the sand they were talking about?) It was dissapointing because we thought we could just run in and out of our room if we needed anything. It was only a couple minutes drive and the beach was beautiful, but it was just the point of getting in the car & trying to find a parking space. But we managed just fine. The pool area was very nice but the water wasn't all that refreshing. It felt like you were jumping in a pool of butter it was so greasy. Yuck
Overall we had the best time. Housekeeping did a great job of having our room nice and clean & the service, food, and entertainment was great. For the price you couldn't beat it. You will have a good time!

Lovely stay

Spent a week at this hotel. Rooms were clean, the view was magnificent. Friendly staff, good atmosphere and mix of people. Would stay there again was worried about previous bad reviews but really enjoyed the week.

Terrible place...

by TripAdvisor Member leejWestYorkshire_UK

We were given a smoking room, despite specifically asking for non-smoking (my wife and I do not smoke and we had two children under 6 with us). The room stank. Asked for a change - nothing else available. The room itself was dirty and very dilapidated - there was a perfect imprint of an iron on the carpet in the middle of the room. One entire wing of the hotel was boarded up - the foyer was fenced off with plasterboard. The poolside was dirty, as was the terrace. The noise at night was unbelievable - kids shouting at well past 3 am right in the corridors. We stayed one night and left, despite booking & paying for a week. The girl at the check out didn't even ask why - they are obviously used to people leaving early. Do yourself a favour - DONT VISIT THIS HOTEL.

Room with a WOW! view

by TripAdvisor Member marian40

Stayed here 5 years ago, loved it and decided to return for a one week stay. Booked an upgraded suite for 140 dollars per night which is well worth it. Our room was on the 6th floor overlooking the ocean, what a sight. If you are into total relaxation and watching the dolphins swim by then this is the place to go. Pool area was lovely although I have to admit one of the two tower blocks is totally boarded up as they are refurbishing the hotel and there is noise from the building work. Seemingly this will take approx one year so be prepared before you go. Other than this the hotel is great. The reception staff are great especially the main receptionist girl who was fantastic. I would also recommend eating in Jimmys Fish House which is located in the hotel. What a view and the food was great especially dinner. We loved our stay here and will without doubt return (hopefully when the building work is finished).

We had a FAB TIME!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We were a little worried after checking out some of the poor reviews for this hotel but we shouldn't have been. Yes the hotel is under renovation, but our room was clean and tidy, fresh towels/toiletries every day, free in room tea/coffee facilities & beds changed every other day. The pool area & pool were clean with plenty of free beds on offer for all guests. The pool bar was open at weekends with the Iguana bar available midweek for all your pool refreshments at other times. The staff were very helpful/friendly, the waffle bar offered reasonable breakfasts for every palate and Jimmy's fish bar was excellent with a free sunset every night guaranteed free of charge right on the waterfront! We travel to Florida every year and have yet to come across such a bargain! If you are like us and want a fantastic location at a bargain price this is for you if you are expecting the Hilton or Hyatt (with prices to match) it isn't! Go to the Gulfview and enjoy yourselves ........ we did!
