Citrus Tower on a Ridge
Clermont's a small town in central Florida, on US 27 about halfway between Leesburg and Haines City. Before Interstates, US 27 used to be one of the most important routes linking Miami to the North. Now it's one of the relatively "quiet" roads through the state.
Towers like this one in Clermont once served a useful purpose - they were used by fire-watchers who looked out for encroaching blazes which might destoy entire orange groves. But I don't think they are much used for that any more. I was hoping to go up the Tower when I was drove past Clermont - but it was all boarded up, closed. Maybe it's open in the tourist season?
"Another Roadside Attraction"
There's also a waxwork museum in Clermont, the "House of Presidents". It's right across from the Citrus Tower - you can't miss it. But I didn't have enough courage to go inside. Let me know if it's any good.
