What to pack For the Daytona 500

by Ersct2000

We were at the Daytona 500 last year and froze our off. Was this abnormal or should we expect the same this year?? Pre shipping our PARKAS and MUTLUKS (boots)?

It's not abnormal for that kind of cold front to come through from Dec-Feb.

NASCAR is not for the thin-skinned. I recommend you load up on Hot Hands warmer packets and increase your beer intake.

You never know. The normal winter pattern in Central and E. Central Florida: Generally dry with temp range between 50F 10C and 75F 24C. If a cold front moves south there is a period of strong storms and rain. When the front moves on through it becomes bright and clear and the temperatures can plunge to a low of 28-32F or -1 to 0C and the high might only be between 50-60F 10-15F. If there is a stong wind, you have to add the chill factor.

What to pack? Layers. A good leather jacket or some type of car coat. Usually by late morning you are peeling off layers and as the sun sets you start adding back on.

Travel Tips for Daytona Beach

Visit Embry Riddle!

by tatyanap

While in Daytona Beach, visit Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. It's considered to be #1 aeronautical school in the world and 1/4 of all commercial pilot are trained there. In fact, Air Force is using ERAU for training their pilots.

It's a beautiful campus, too!

Visit www.embryriddle.com for more information.

If you want to see Dolphins, wading
birds or jumping fish you've got all kinds of ways to see them. You can get on
all kinds of boats but if you like to do it a bit special try this 1890's style
Fantail launch. You can glide quietly past the estates and the islands of
Daytona. You have a few choices on what kind of cruise you would like to make.

Ponce de Leon Inlet Light Station

by Krumlovgirl

Not located in Daytona Beach, but close (12 miles south), the Ponce Inlet light house is a great stop for a daytrip outside the town. Today it is the largest light house in Florida and one of the oldest, best preserved light houses in the United States. From the top, you get a great view of the Atlantic Ocean and the Halifax River. If you're into light house history, there is also a little reconstructed village with living historians. I personally enjoyed the view, although not the long, long lines of stairs going up to the top!

"Daytona Beach was great for my very first visit"

We drove to Daytona Beach in July 2001. We arrived just after the Nascar race. Although I am a big Nascar fan that was the only time I could get holidays. The next day we drove to Titusville to watch the space shuttle VERY early in the morning - it was still dark. Amazing site I was in awe.
We stayed at a budget Superior Small Lodging motel on the beach. Wasnt bad.
Of course, we visited Daytona Speedway. It was so very emotional. Dale Earnhardt was killed in Feb.2001 and there were so many flowers and tributes everywhere. I cried. I loved Dale as a driver.
I would visit Daytona Beach in a minute again but perhaps stay somewhere else just to have a different experience. Our hotel was great but I like to try different places.

"Daytona area"

Huge shopping center , airport for area, Nascar races. daytona 500. Air shows and a 7 mile beach on which you can drive your car, park or bring your RV and park but not after dark. It is off limits then.
The place of " SPRING BREAK"
