Travel Tips for Daytona Beach

Daytona Beach is known for...

by Daytona_Info

Daytona Beach is known for Bike Week, Spring Break, and NASCAR. But did you know that you can drive on our beaches. I love to drop the top on my convertable, or rent a 4 wheeler, and cruise up and down the beach for hours. It's so beautiful, and you can park and just hang out, swim or even play volley ball. It's just and increadable experience, a must try if you are ever to Daytona. Driving on the beach makes the trip worth it from anywhere.

Aunt Catfish's restaurant on...

by CJD68

Aunt Catfish's restaurant on the mainland side of a main bidge spanning the inter-coastal water way. Sunday brunch gives you a chance to sample nearly everything. Otherwise, go for the catfish - there great.

Daytona International Speedway

by Ewingjr98

NASCAR was founded in Daytona in 1947, and the early races were run on the sandy Atlantic coast beach. In 1957 NASCAR owner Bill France, Sr. broke ground for a new track, which opened in 1959 as Daytona International Speedway. The 2.5 mile track has very steep 31 degree banking on the turns, built up from soil dug from the infield at what has become Lake Lloyd. Lights were installed in 1998 to allow night racing. The track seating has been repeatedly expanded over the years, increasing from 41,000 seats when it was opened to almost 170,000 seats today.

The track is home to NASCAR's marquee event, the Daytona 500, as well as the numerous races and practices, called Speedweeks, that build up to this season-opening race. NASCAR also holds the annual Firecracker 400 at Daytona in July. Other racing here includes NASCAR Nationwide series and truck series races, the Grand-American Rolex Sports Car Series Rolex 24 at Daytona, the ARCA RE/MAX Series, and AMA superbike and motocross.

Daytona Beach USA

"World Center of Speed"

Sir Malcomb Campbell set land speed records on the sands of Daytona Beach. NASCAR (stock cars) raced on a beach/road course here. The North Turn Restaurant sits at the Northernmost point of this old course and has many photos from that era. The huge Daytona International Speedway hosts NASCAR,motorcycle, and road course sports car races each year. Hot cars and motorcycles abound in the area.

My VERY SHORT SIDE-TRIP To DAYTONA BEACH :-))

by Lys-Noir

I did have time to do a side trip to Daytona Beach for some sunbathing and drive the car right on the beach - another american and new experience to me!!

This was actually a nice and welcome break from the *hard* rides at Epcot Center, DisneyWorld and Universal Studios...

Not so many cars or people though because the weather was a bit chilly for locals, I guess...for me it was OK and even managed to have my face a redish, lol!
