Great hote chain on the West Coast, but.

    by

We loved this hotel chain on our road trip of the West Coast, but here in the Southern States, for some reason, were no where near the standard of the ones on the West Coast over all.

We got in from our flight quite late, picked up our Car, and started looking for a La Quinta. And we found one, charged us more than they said on the website. We know this because we looked on their internet computer.

We still wanted to try to stay in these hotels on our travels, so good was our stay on the West coast, so we used the computer at the first La Quinta to book ahead to the next place we wanted to stay.

If there were no Inn and Suites in that place, but there were the Inn's, we would look for a voucher book in that place because there would usually be a discount voucher for the Inn's in the books but not the Suites.

Mostly our stays in this chain in the maybe 30 we stayed in, were just fair, as the breakfast foods included made up for it a little so we could drive for most of the day on a full belly. But, don't ask how our stay in La Quinta Inn & Suites Galveston Seawall West in Texas was, wow, that was a new low and the worst hotel we have ever stayed in, and that's saying something.

Daytona Beach Turkey Run

by lippygloss

Travelling to Daytona Beach from Australia, can anyone give me info regarding the Turkey Run held in November's thanksgiving long weekend every year.
Is it worth seeing? prices to get in the venue?

Where is there good accomodation near the International speedway? and does the NASCAR racing operate during the month of November?

Is it warm enough to swim at the beach?
How far away is the beach from the speedway?

thanks

Re: Daytona Beach Turkey Run

by drnigelc

Nascar has 2 races during the year at Daytona - February & July, so there won't be any Nascar events during Turkey Run. In fact, Turkey run is held at the speedway, so it would be near impossible to have an actual race event during the event.

The speedway is home to the "Daytona 500 Experience" attraction (an 'official' Nascar attraction), so you'd be able to take in some Nascar-related stuff while there.

For more info on Turkey Run (dates, prices, schedules, etc.) visit http://www.turkeyrun.com/

For hotel reservations, etc., visit http://www.resideo.com/us/florida/daytonabeach/

Daytona isn't very spread out, so the speedway isn't far from the airport or the beach, so you should be in good shape.

Hope that helps!

Travel Tips for Daytona Beach

The graduate & accomplices

by Pawtuxet

Christopher, the graduate, is on the left with beard. He cut off his long hair just prior to graduation and the beard went when it was time to find a job.
Brother and sister were along for support....or aggitation....wherever their moods took them. These three are sometimes very funny when they get together after long periods of separation.
All our kids have enjoyed Daytona over the years with their various interests...and have been in and out of that town since early childhood. My fondest memory is without a doubt...my son's graduation.
However, we had lots of wonderful days on the beach when the kids were young.

Head to the Ponce Inlet...

by CJD68

Head to the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse a little south of Daytona Beach. Once you pass through the shop, you enter the lighthouse area. Watch a mini-movie on the history of the place, climb the light house or learn about recent water related topics - such as Cuban refugees desperate measures to seek freedom in the USA.

Daytona, Florida

"Daytona Speedway"

Worth a visit for motorsport enthusiasts. Daytona USA is located 60 miles from Orlando. Collection of race cars, memorabilias are on display. Actual pit stop show. Simulators and Imax mini theatre plus a huge souvenir shop can be found inside. There's a guided tour alongside the race track including the tower where the announcers sit.
Reasonable entrance fee.

beachcomberT's new Daytona Beach Page

by beachcomberT

Started visiting Daytona in mid-80s and relocated there in 1990 after many years in NY, Mass. and RI. A great place for those who like the ocean. No longer rural but still not overly developed, and open countryside is just 15-20 miles away. For Disney maniacs, theme park central is just an hour's drive down I-4. Cape Canaveral and St. Augustine also within an hour's drive.
The very wide, sandy beach and the Intracoastal Waterway are the area's 2 best attractions. Driving and parking on the beach is permitted in some sections. "Special events" are the town's main industry, so there is something going on almost every weekend. Those who prefer quieter times should try September, early October, November thru January, May and June. Hotel and restaurant prices cheaper than in most other Fl. oceanfront areas; deals can be had, esp. in off-season; don't be afraid to haggle a little.
