Great Stay!

We just returned from our family vacation and our stay at the Embassy Suites, Deerfield Beach. We chose this hotel because with two small children, we wanted to be on a beach, and needed a larger room with a separate bedroom. I too am stunned by the inconsistent reviews. Simply stated, our stay was wonderful. We had a beautiful oceanfront room on the top floor that perfectly met our needs. The pool area was cleaned every day and well maintained. The daily complimentary breakfast had just about everything anyone could want and the food was very good. The beach and the ocean was beautiful as well. The staff at the hotel was friendly and very attentive to our needs in a timely manner. There is an abundance of restaurants, and some activities, a short drive from the hotel. I highly recommed the Embassy Suites, Deerfield Beach.
Great place...especially for families

Stayed for 7 nights with wife and two teenaged daughters in a "sunset" suite with two double beds plus sleepsofa during the 3rd week of August. (Sunset suites have no ocean view plus an absurdly narrow balcony...but who cares, we are not spending lots of time in the room.) Got a rate that averaged $125/night. Add the taxes and parking and it came to about $150/night.
Room was good. Two full bathrooms were a great plus (they were nice and clean). Mattresses were fair. Two TV's. Wet bar with microwave great for keeping snacks and beverages. Free newspaper daily. One phonecall brought us extra towels, blankets, toiletries
Pool was very good. Plenty of lounge chairs...many were in full sun, but we usually found a couple in the shade. Hot tub was good. Beach was good-->not pristine, but certainly not filthy. Umbrella and lounge chairs available on the beach--no charge except for tips. We had no trouble bringing a cooler with liquid refreshments to the beach and pool. Walk across the zero traffic street to access the beach.
Breakfast buffet was sometimes crowded, but manageable. Food was ample and of average quality...but the omelettes-to-order station was very good. Bacon/Sausage/Pancakes/Bagels/Cereal/Fruit/Beverages with all of the fixings were available. Trays for "take-out to your suite" readily available.
Free happy hour (5:30-7:30pm) also sometimes crowded, but no problem getting drinks (order 2 at a time). Some of the drinks were weak (pina colada) and some were strong (bahama mama). Beer also available. You can brings your drinks outside to the pool area. Free munchies were available during happy hour. Soft drinks available for the kids.
A couple of good casual inexpensive restaurants (Whale's Rib and Flannagan's) within about 1/2 mile...not exactly walking distance. (The Italian place across the street was lousy). Watch out while parking in local metered parking lots...I got a $25 ticket for overtime. Many restaurants in other locations. Try Padrino's in Boca Raton for an excellent inexpensive Cuban meal...save room for dessert @ ColdStone Ice Cream.
We also drove 60 minutes to Miami (South Beach and Bal Harbour). Shopping on Lincoln Road was good and we ate at "Cafeteria" which was also good.
Final comment: Not a romantic luxurious getaway, but fine for a nice family vacation.
PS...I heard one guest complain that traffic noise was a problem. Either get an oceanfront suite or a suite on the 5th or 6th floor to eliminate this problem.
Good hotel... staff needs hospitality training

First the positive - Hotel is ideal for families - good pool, convenient to beach, and standard embassy suite breakfast works well for kids.
Now the negative - The staff seems miserable - this started with check in - the woman who checked us in (later found out she was the front desk manager) looked like her dog just died. It was so obvious that she was miserable that my kids played a game the entire stay.. trying to see if she knew how to smile - each time we passed the check in counter - we would try to find her smiling - 4 days... no smiles. I had some small "special" requests - she made no effort to accomodate... I finally asked another staff member if "she" was always this miserable.
The gift shop lady was also a hag - you would think that someone trying to sell overpriced items would at least say hello or thank you... No... she acted like we were bothering her when we went in to make a purchase.
This could be a very good family hotel... but until they invest in some hospitality training... I will stay elsewhere.
