Best family place for diverse interesys

by 341justin

We are deciding whether to stay at Poolside Villas near the harbor, or Destin Towers (or are open to other suggestions). We have a family with wide age span & interests. Which place would be best for clear calm water for small children and beach lovers as well as teenage snorkelers, and adult divers?

I know this was posted a while ago-but for others wondering:

1. Crab island area down by the bridge is a fun place with calm waters

2. Gulf islands national seashore which is a little farther south past crab island -great place for kids to play in water, snorkel, find blue crabs, hermit crabs- water is very calm since it is on bay side.

both of these places are free access, also for boogie/skim boarding any of the gulf-side beaches are great.

Travel Tips for Destin

Get in the car and drive down...

Get in the car and drive down Hwy 30-A . . . It has the most spectacular scenery . . . Stop at the little towns along the way . . . Grayton Beach . . . Santa Rosa . . . Seaside . . . Seagrove Watching the dolphins play in the surf

Don't go without stopping in...

Dont go without stopping in Seaside !
The gentle blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico cascading over a glorious white sand beach set the pace for Seaside, a resort town that takes relaxing seriously. Why drive when you can saunter down the brick-lined streets? Who needs a mall when you can browse through the open-air market — modeled after a Mediterranean bazaar — and buy jewelry, clothes, even local artwork.
Seaside is a small-town America from another, simpler time. Case in point? White picket fences are mandatory for each of the 60-plus pastel wood-frame cottages available for rent.

The Luck of the Irish

by keeweechic

When Molly made her first tip of one dollar, she decided to tack it to the back bar for good luck. In time friends of the pub added their dollar to the collection and it soon became tradition. Today you will see $1 bills everywhere.

There is said to be over $250,000 one dollar bills hanging from the ceiling throughout the Pub in Pensacola and I don’t think Destin is too far behind. An amazing sight. McGuire’s Irish Pub boasts one of the largest Restaurant Display Wine Cellars in the world. They even have a have a 1905 Mouton-Rothschild Bordeaux. -- I just had the house wine - which was pretty good.

Snorkeling, boating

by pamstravels

We usually rent a boat and go out to Crab Island located in the Bay near the inlet to the Gulf. The water is shallow and reminds me of the tropics - blue and green with a clear view to the bottom. We throw the anchor overboard and snorkle for hours. There is even a floating restaurant nearby that sells hamburgers!

Snorkeling

by Aliseeya

There are a lot of great places to snorkel in Destin! The easiest and most enjoyable way to snorkel in Destin is to go on a snorkeling boat trip. There are many places that offer these, such as A.J.'s. It's a great activity not only for adults, but for kids as well.

If you want to go snorkeling on your own, a good place for it is near the Destin jetties on Holiday Isle. At the end of Gulf Shore Dr there is a parking lot, and you can easily walk to the beach from there. In fact, most snorkeling boats make regular stops near the jetties!
