We are visiting Destin in July. Are there any "must do" activities for a family with kids ages 13, 10, and 9?
I haven't been to Destin in years, but I know there is a water park that the kids would enjoy. I'd drive east to Scenic route 30-A, home of Seaside, Watercolors, and other communities. There's a bike path running along 30-A, not very shaded, but definitely safe. You might check out Seasidefl.com, and go to their calendar for the dates you'll be there. They usually have movies, concerts, etc on the weekend. Jet skis can be rented in Destin. We did this several years ago. That was lots of fun. If it's raining, there's an Air Force museum someplace close by. One of the locals can fill you in on it. There are always the outlets at Sandestin.

Check out things to do in Panama City Beach too if you don't mind the drive. There's a bigger water park, Shipwreck Island. There's also tons of mini-golf, arcades, go-cart tracks, etc.

take a walk on the beach at sunset/sunrise, go to big kahunas, go to the beach at night...especially if you're a teenager...great parties...and u must go snorkeling well they are too many to name...i have been going every year since i was 3. everything is an awesome memory. but probably just sitting on the beach with my family and friends, having the time of my life.
Don't miss all the fabulous beaches in this area. Get in you car and drive along Highway 30A. The scenery is amazing. Feels like you're in paradise and this moment will never end. Stop at some nice little restaurant right on the beach, and listen to the sound of waves.
This is your basic waterfront honkey tonk bar with lots of beer (it's hot and no air conditioning, so put a bag of ice in your pitcher!), live entertainment (country/beach music). Walk up or boat up. No parking for cars, but motorcyles make it fine. No shirt, no shoes, no problem! Oysters (raw, steamed, and 'aggressive' which means with garlic, butter, and monterey jack cheese) and gumbo.
Lets face it, the ONLY reason you should go to Destin is the beautiful beaches! And believe me, it is a good reason! Destin is just a beautiful place; stunning, white sand beaches, clean city, nice people. This a perfect warm-weather getaway.
One of my favorite things to do on the beach is to have a picnic! I like going to the beach on Holiday Isle -- it's more secluded and less crowded than other Destin beaches. Although there isn't a Kentucky Fried Chicken in Destin (which is my favorite picnic food), it's still relaxing to eat some yummy sandwiches and watch the waves on the beach.
I especially enjoy to picnic during the fall when it's not as hot outside.
