Flip flops are the footwear of choice. Bring your sun screen! And bring a hat. You don't want to look like you're 80 years old when you're only 30 years. If you bring your camera to the beach, bring a ziplock back in which to store it. Or just buy a waterproof disposable camera. They work great! Be sure to bring a beach chair or a beach mat. It makes relaxing on the beach a little easier. If you don't bring one, you can buy a inexpensive one from any of the MANY beachy shops near the water.

Loved The View, Can't Say That About The Food

Things must have changed since 2004! Ate lunch here in April, 2006. Had their version of Gumbo and the Shrimp PoBoy. There are places in Louisiana where you would not be allowed to call this gumbo! Could not tell if it had been made with a "roux" but looked and tasted like it had been thickened with cornstarch! The PoBoy was a few small shrimp on a cold, sorry sub roll that you can buy in a plastic bag at Wal Mart! They could go to Publix and get some bread which would make a terrific sandwich. Sorry excuse for a PoBoy! Spoke to the waiter about this after eating and was told that the only reason he ate the gumbo was because he got it for free! He also said that he was originally from Louisiana. So, go if you must but don't get the gumbo or PoBoy. Great location but not so the food I had. My favorite dish was the sweet tea.

Great seafood on the beach

Pompano Joe's is a seafood restaurant located right on the beach on scenic hwy 98. Although it does cater to those on vacation, it has a very fun atmosphere full of local flavor. While you can expect a bit of a wait during high season, they have a bar directly on the beach where you can wait for a table.

The menu is mainly seafood, but there are plenty of other nonseafood items to choose from. The service is very good and efficient; they hire only experiences servers (unlike many Destin restaurants, who will hire anybody).

This is a great place to go while on vacation. It's located right on the beach, and has a fun atmosphere that the entire family will enjoy.
