Fudpucker's
by myrtle about Fudpucker's
It has become a tradition in my family to always eat at Fudpucker's on the first night we spend in Destin. I think we do this because you get to keep the cups that your drinks come in, so this way we have cups for our drinks for the rest of the week. The service is always great, but there is usually a really long wait to eat at this restaurant. I recommend you either go early in the season, like May before the kids get out of school, or just go earlier than you normally would go to eat so you can beat the crowd. One of the unique things about this restaurant seems to be that everyone likes to write their names on everything. I guess people plan to come back the following year & want to see where the signed something. Good luck finding it, though. It seems like there are so many places where people have written that they've gotten to where they have to write over other people's names. Don't forget to buy one of their very popular t-shirts! The names of the dishes are kind of funny, but be careful when you're ordering. It would be easy to slip up & accidentally say the wrong thing. I haven't had anything so far that I didn't like, but I can remember one menu item being called the Mother Fudburger. See what I mean? It would be easy to mess that one up.
Destin Diner
by myrtle about Destin Diner
***I've been told this place is now closed. Sorry all.***
We haven't gone here in a few years, but I always liked to go here because it looks like such a classic style diner. They have everything you expect to get at a diner: breakfast foods, burgers & fries, milk shakes, etc. It's all good.
See the dolphins
by myrtle
We got to see a lot of dolphins on our dolphin cruise. Look how close they got to us! It turns out they really enjoy riding the wake of the boat, so often times they'll ride along with you almost all the way back.
Keeweechic's Destin
by keeweechic
Destin, in the Florida panhandle has history dating back to the 7th century A.D. There are documents which show American Indians lived here, surviving off the fishing in these waters. Some 900 years later, Spanish explorers visited the coast. The wreckage from some of these ships are still being found in the areas.
Known as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village", the largest and most highly equipped fishing fleet in the State of Florida docks at the harbour in Destin. The immediate history of this area traces back to fisherman Capt Leonard Destin who moved here from New London in Connecticut in 1845 and decided to settle there. Destin was the only channel passage to the Gulf of Mexico between Panama city and Pensacola and ended up being known as Destin’s East Pass.
Destin has grown from a small fishing village that it once was to a major tourist attraction for its beautiful coast with sugar white sands and emerald green waters. There are many recreational opportunities here including golf, watersports, diving and snorkelling.
In addition to fishing, recreational opportunities include golf, tennis and watersports, including diving and snorkeling.
You won’t find any tourist attractions on this page. Destin and the Gulf Coast area was a recharging for us after a pretty fast trip we were doing not to mention dodging tropical storms and hurricanes in this area. It was all too short a visit.
