destin this weekend?

by fromtexas

i am traveling to destin this weekend sept 10-12 (flying into vps) and staying at a beach house for the weekend. the info on weather channel looks ok - so i'm not sure if there is anything to worry about? has the hurricane affected the area at all? are restaurants and places all open and is business going along as usual? any chance that my vacation will be rainy and cold? is the water cold? can we still lay out on the beach all day?

also - any links for destin info and restaurants, bars, things to do would be appreciated. all of the sites i find on google are selling condos.

thanks in advance for any info!

Welcome to VT!
VT members have some pretty great pages on Destin, with lots of tips available. Just do a search on "destin" for all kinds of information, including member who live there & could answer your questions.

In general, check out myrtle's page, she covers a lot: http://www.virtualtourist.com/m/9be7/ba0ec/

Been watching the hurricane news pretty closely since I have friends & relatives all over the state, & will be down there myself in October. Sounds like Frances just dumped some heavy rains on the Panhandle and moved on, with no remarkable damage. But keep an eye on Ivan, he's heading up that way next!

Ocean waves crushing along the shore, salty ocean breeze, sun, the smell of the ocean, watching dolphins play. You know what, maybe heaven is up there in the skies, but paradise is defenetly down here on the Earth!!!

the beach

by destingirl17 about the beach

well since im 17 and cant get into any clubs...i know that right outside my condo is a great night spot. all of the teenagers hang out on the beach til all hours of the night, listening to music and meeting people from all over the country. people are drinking and dancing and i have seen a few play guitar on requests from others. casual fun!!!!

Nice food, nice atmosphere

by laura4n8 about Landry's Seafood House

This is a great spot for some fine seafood. They say they are known for their fresh seafood and house dressing. Well ... I can attest that I thoroughly enjoyed the fresh seafood and the house dressing. This is a white linen spot, so if you're tiring of the paper napkin seafood dives, this is a great alternative. I do cartwheels for the pecan-crusted catfish and the house salad. Oh ... and the desserts aren't bad, either. : )

Boardwalk to the beach

by myrtle

Many of the condos in Florida will have their own private boardwalk to the beach. I just found out this year they do this to prevent people from walking on the dunes. The dunes protect the businesses & buildings from the weather, and they are working to try to protect the dunes as much as possible. This boardwalk belongs to the Beach Street Cottages.
