Leave your modesty behind
by paganegyptian
A great place to let your inhibitions go. Walking down the beach in nothing but a thong or g-string swimsuit is the life and is quite regular. From time to time you will see topless girls soaking in the sun without problems. This applies to women and men. So go and enjoy yourself and work on the best tan possible.
Packing List

Sandles, or some easy on/easy off shoe. You will need shoes to walk on the beach in. The sand gets very hot! If your going on just a relaxing vacation bring along different clothes. A pair of jeans, lots of shorts, some dressy clothes. Whatever. Or on the other hand, you might just see all the cute shops around and just have to buy new things for yourself! Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. The higher the spf protection the better. Oooh, also lipbalm and leave in conditioner with sunscreen in them. Leave in conditioner works wonderfull for a day at the beach, It helps keep the tangeles out, and keeps the salt water from drying out your lovely hair. The lip balm helps keep your kisser from getting all burnt and dried out. Also, have condoms. You never know you, or your travel partner might need one. It makes more sense to me to have your own, than you know where and what they have been exposed to. Underwater cameras. Those one time use ones are great.

Brazilian Stakehouse
by miamivanja about Chima
A really great restaurant close to the beach on Las Olas Blvd. This is a typical brazilian stakehouse, where you pay a fixed price ($20 per lunch, $40 per dinner) to eat as much meat as you want, included in the price is a great salad bar.
The restaurant is beautiful. Valet parking is complimentary and entrance is complete with fountains and fire. There is a full bar, which makes killer caipirinhas (a famous brazilian alcoholic beverage). There is over 15 different kinds of meats, constantly being brought over to your table by brazilian servers. Some of the meats are Top Sirloin, Filet Mignon, Sirloin, Flank Steak, Chicken, Sausage, Pork Ribs, etc.
This is one of THE best restaurant's in the entire Fort Lauderdale. The price is a little steep, but definitely worth it. My suggestions is go for lunch. Same great meat, but $20 lower in price. My favorite dish is picanha, a famous brazilian meat. Definitely worth trying, however, everything in the restaurant is delicious.
Legendary Shirttails
by goingsolo about Shirttail Charlies
South Florida is generally known for its transient place. Few people can claim to be natives and there's little loyalty to the place where most call home for a brief time, or where they arrive later in life only to refer to somewhere else as home. But Shirttail Charlies is one of those rare exceptions which has a loyal local following. It is a little hole in the wall type place located along the Fort Lauderdale Riverfront marina. A real come as you are place as many arrive at Shirttail's by boat and sit on the outdoor patio drinking beer and eating fresh seafood. Most tourists would never find this place, prefering South Beach or the Fort Lauderdale riverfront area instead. But if you're looking to get away from the tourist type places, Shirttail's is worth a trip.
A few years ago, Shirttails was supposed to close. The area was bought by some condo developers eager to put up some more highrises in an already densely populated area. I remember talking to one of the waiters about it and he said that they didn't know if they'd make it through the month. Either Hurricane Wilma or some local pressure put a stop to that. The condos have gone up in the area, but Shirttails still stands. Here's your chance to try some true South Florida delicacies, such as gator bites! They do taste like chicken.
