Taxi to Miami

by sandrabryan

Can you tell me how far it is to Miami Airport from the Cruise Terminal at Fort Lauderdale. How long it would take and how much it would cost.

Re: Taxi to Miami

by grandmaR

The fixed price up to 5 people MIA to the port - $24 PER CAB - plus $1 per person fuel charge, plus tip - 20 min ride

http://www.miamidade.gov/portofmiami/directions_parking.asp

Most of the time, we've done a shuttle. Dollar car rental which is off the airport has a free shuttle to the port. So we've rented a car at home, driven to Miami, turned the car in at the airport drop off (and it really isn't AT the airport but nearby) and taken the shuttle to the port.

From MIA to Ft. Lauderdale PORT may run over $100. I recomment looking at www.tri-rail.com. It will deopend on your baggage and willingness but, it may be more to your liking as you are questioning price

Re: Taxi to Miami

by imolinar

I think it would be quite expensive. Why dont you search on internet for shuttle services?. I remember once being in Fort Lauderdale going to Orlando, and we took a shuttle, dont have the details anymore though.

Re: Taxi to Miami

by nicolaitan

suggest calling your cruise line - they will have the answers and may even, if enough people are involved, arrange a group transfer.

Re: Taxi to Miami

I see I misread the question. Sorry.

Keep in mind that a group transfer will be per PERSON and is almost always more expensive than other options. Plus if you get a cruise line transfer, they wait until the bus is full before they leave.

So the cheapest way would still be - shuttle from Port Everglades (which is the name of the Ft. Lauderdale cruise terminal) to the Ft. Lauderdale airport. Or a taxi - the distance is very short and should take no more than 5 minutes. Get them to drop you off at the rental car facility - Royal is a good local rental car company. Currently to pick up in Ft. Lauderdale and drop off at the Miami airport would be about $22.00 for a car.

Then drive to the airport drop off in Miami, drop the car off and take their shuttle to the airport.

Travel Tips for Fort Lauderdale

Leave your modesty behind

by paganegyptian

A great place to let your inhibitions go. Walking down the beach in nothing but a thong or g-string swimsuit is the life and is quite regular. From time to time you will see topless girls soaking in the sun without problems. This applies to women and men. So go and enjoy yourself and work on the best tan possible.

Packing List

by Arual

Sandles, or some easy on/easy off shoe. You will need shoes to walk on the beach in. The sand gets very hot! If your going on just a relaxing vacation bring along different clothes. A pair of jeans, lots of shorts, some dressy clothes. Whatever. Or on the other hand, you might just see all the cute shops around and just have to buy new things for yourself! Sunscreen, sunscreen, sunscreen. The higher the spf protection the better. Oooh, also lipbalm and leave in conditioner with sunscreen in them. Leave in conditioner works wonderfull for a day at the beach, It helps keep the tangeles out, and keeps the salt water from drying out your lovely hair. The lip balm helps keep your kisser from getting all burnt and dried out. Also, have condoms. You never know you, or your travel partner might need one. It makes more sense to me to have your own, than you know where and what they have been exposed to. Underwater cameras. Those one time use ones are great.

live music

by doug48 about mango's

located on las olas blvd. mango's is a nice place to eat and drink. this combination restaurant and bar serves good american fare and has a lively bar at night. they book bands that play various music and they have a dance floor. a fun place to eat and drink on las olas. casual.

Brazilian Stakehouse

by miamivanja about Chima

A really great restaurant close to the beach on Las Olas Blvd. This is a typical brazilian stakehouse, where you pay a fixed price ($20 per lunch, $40 per dinner) to eat as much meat as you want, included in the price is a great salad bar.
The restaurant is beautiful. Valet parking is complimentary and entrance is complete with fountains and fire. There is a full bar, which makes killer caipirinhas (a famous brazilian alcoholic beverage). There is over 15 different kinds of meats, constantly being brought over to your table by brazilian servers. Some of the meats are Top Sirloin, Filet Mignon, Sirloin, Flank Steak, Chicken, Sausage, Pork Ribs, etc.
This is one of THE best restaurant's in the entire Fort Lauderdale. The price is a little steep, but definitely worth it. My suggestions is go for lunch. Same great meat, but $20 lower in price. My favorite dish is picanha, a famous brazilian meat. Definitely worth trying, however, everything in the restaurant is delicious.

Legendary Shirttails

by goingsolo about Shirttail Charlies

South Florida is generally known for its transient place. Few people can claim to be natives and there's little loyalty to the place where most call home for a brief time, or where they arrive later in life only to refer to somewhere else as home. But Shirttail Charlies is one of those rare exceptions which has a loyal local following. It is a little hole in the wall type place located along the Fort Lauderdale Riverfront marina. A real come as you are place as many arrive at Shirttail's by boat and sit on the outdoor patio drinking beer and eating fresh seafood. Most tourists would never find this place, prefering South Beach or the Fort Lauderdale riverfront area instead. But if you're looking to get away from the tourist type places, Shirttail's is worth a trip.

A few years ago, Shirttails was supposed to close. The area was bought by some condo developers eager to put up some more highrises in an already densely populated area. I remember talking to one of the waiters about it and he said that they didn't know if they'd make it through the month. Either Hurricane Wilma or some local pressure put a stop to that. The condos have gone up in the area, but Shirttails still stands. Here's your chance to try some true South Florida delicacies, such as gator bites! They do taste like chicken.
