More about Elysium Resort
Hotel has good location near beach and pool & jacuzzi areas well maintained. One pool heated-particularly welcome on a chilly March evening. Rooms are spacious.
What tipped the balance for me though were the owners-through many years of travel and staying at places large and small, I have never encountered such inexplicably hostile innkeepers as I did at the Elysium Resort.
If you want to "stay gay" in Fort Lauderdale near the
beach, best advice I can give is to steer clear of the Elysium and try one of the other gay inns in the area, where presumably you'll find more gracious innkeepers.
we stayed there for our honeymoon!
Fred and I are from Brookline, Massachusetts.
We really can't believe the last few reviews of the Elysium! Fred and I have stayed there 5 times since May 2003 and we have made it our home away from home. We usually stay the week before and including Memorial Day weekend. We just got married on 11/25/05 and chose the Elysium Resort to celebrate our honeymoon! Gary and Steve went out of there way to accomodate us and help us celebrate our honeymoon. They have always treated us as friends. The staff has always been very friendly and charming! The Elysium's internal landscaped area is beautiful and always well groomed. The final proof of their 'success' is that every time we go there, they have been at 100% occupancy with many returning guests! It makes you really wonder how authentic those other 'nasty' comments are! Take care, Artie of 'Artie and Fred'
A very relaxing time
We have just returned from our 7 day cruise out of Fort Lauderdale and decided to end our holiday by staying at the Elysium Resort for 3 days. It was by far the best time i have ever had at a hotel. The staff start out by introducing themselves and then take you on a very good tour of the grounds. The rooms are very well kept. Very clean and very comfortable. The bed and bedding alone are well worth the trip there. The two heated pools are heavinly. Especially when your coming from the cold part of Canada. To be able to go out late at night and be able to have a swim without freezing was great. They have a great hot tub that is surrounded by these beutiful plants. It made us feel like we shoule be in the jungle. It was incredible!!! Over all, the place is a must, even if it's just a weekend trip or staying longer than that. We do know that next time, we will be staying longer than just 3 days. This is a resort that i think is going to make others come back.
The perfect place to get away from the outside (straight) world

I just returned from a weeks enjoyment of this wonderfuly friendly and well groomed little gem (only 36 rooms)of a gay deco resort hotel. I was so relaxed and comfortable enjoying the very large whirl pool, and two lovely swimming pools, lush landscaping and most of all chating with so many really nice people. Before I left I booked a return visit for this weeked just two weeks later.
The entire staff and owners were so happy, sweet, curtious and helpful at ALL times. They really do go out of their way to be nice and helpful to their guests. A rare quality today no matter where you go. Trust me, I've traveled extensively for over twenty years.
I loved my studio next to the whirl pool but also enjoyed the pool side suites of several of the friends I made while there. All of the rooms seemed to be nice. The pricing is extermly resonable for the level of comfort and enjoyment. I was so happy there I didn't leave the compound for three days! I never even walked just two short blocks to the beach because I was enjoying my visits with all most all the other guests. Many of us started going out as a group for dinner and bar hopping. One evening we were a party of eight. Everything is just a ten minute drive away.
As far as a review goes, how about this... I didn't hear one person complain about anything the entire week! I honestly can't say that about anywhere I have stayed any else where in the world.
I enjoyed the other guest so much that five of us have been in all most daily contact since I left. I'm quite sure that I have at least two really good new friends whom I met at The Elysium Resort and many other casual friends that will stay in contact over the years to come.
Elysium....pay by the day only, or go elsewhere!
I have stayed here in the past. This time property was in very poor repair(understandably from the hurrican that just passed FLL) however, they made sure to charged full price for the room even while workmen ripped apart the damage and paraded it by us at the pool. Went to speak to the Mgr/owner who flew into a fit when we told him of our disatifaction with the dispruption and conditions and we wanted to be credited for the remainder of our stay, or pay a penalty, so we could leave and go somewhere else. He told us to leave! And made referrence to already having had a "run-in" with me during the stay. Didn't see that one coming, so it took a few minutes to figure this one out! The "run-in" would have been when I went in to the office/breakfast area and asked if I could help myself to a glass of orange juice from the frig to take to my friend by the pool. I guess breakfast hours were over? My sincerest apologies for any upset this caused. Upon departing, we suggested that other reputable establishments provide a cancellation policy when people need to leave in advance and won't screw you for your entire stay..(seems the truth had no value to these guys..they just wanted our money, so "pay by the day" only at the Elysium!). Furthermore, don't get the bleach/water from the hot tub anywhere near your face..the water smelled foul, but you will enjoy the midnight stars from the hot soup as you watch the rats run across the hydro wires and up the drain spouts and into some poor saps room who left the window open...no screens on ours! Therefore, no fresh ocean breezes like the brochure, just the constant loud drone of a cheap window air conditioner! Our room looked like bad porn decor. It looked like someone had painted the room in the middle of the night, with no lights. Our room door could not be shut easily from the outside once it was locked..you had to hold down the latch and then slip the door closed. The extra money we spent in moving across the street to "The Grand" was worth every penny! The guys at the Elysium forgot a few important things...we are frequent visitors to FLL every year; and we were there to relax and have a well deserved vacation..not just [--] around on a day pass. If you want to relax in a clean environment..go elsewhere!
Agree with all the negative comments on this place. Just recently stayed there. Non existant customer service, rude owners, rooms in disrepair and dirty, grounds unkept, pool not clean, decking and lounge chairs always dirty with debris. Major attitude when asking for a muffin at 1035a...was promptly told very rudely that breakfast ended at 1030a. Give me a break! Believe me, there are much, much better places to stay in FLL for the same money or $10 more. It's well worth it to pass on the Elysium. When people say you get what you pay for...well, here you get less. Go elsewhere!
Wonderful time at the Elysium
I have to admit I was a little hesitant to stay at the Elysium after reading a few of the reviews on this site...now I have to wonder if those reviewers were even staying at the same resort.
I had a wonderful time at the Elysium! I found the rooms to be quite nice, the staff was very friendly, the breakfast each morning was lovely and the pool/hot tub areas were excellent. I couldn't have asked for anything else.
Nice place - good value
I enjoyed my stay ot The Elysium. Originally, I had booked myself into a neighboring resort (which will go unnamed) for 8 days - but fled that resort after the first 4 days (obnoxious guests ruining my stay). The Elysium was able to house me for the last 4 days of my stay, and literally SAVED my vacation! (THANK YOU!)
First off, The Elysium is huge. Seems to me it's the biggest of the gay resorts in Fort Lauderdale - and I really appreciated the size of the place. The 2 swimming pools were great - clean, good temp - and the hot tub was also nice (huge, too). Workout room was a plus. My room was fine - clean & cool (temp) - and the location of the room (up high) was terrific. Landscaping was attractive. Breakfasts were the same as every other resort serves (something to do with Florida laws on what you serve - or how you serve it?), which was just fine with me.
Staff was good, too. No problems there.
The location of this resort is excellent. VERY close to the beach - close enough to the gay beach, too.
All in all? No complaints. The place is nice.
Good value, pleasant stay
I've read the reviews on here both good and bad. The bad ones to me seem to be in the category of you get what you pay for. I have stayed in several of the other guest houses in this neighborhood (Flamingo, Villa Venice, Grand, & Brigatine) as well as Elysium. Elysium's rate structure is in the middle of the pack. The rooms are large for the money and well maintained. Yes, the bathroom fixutures are older than Flamingo or Villa Venice, but then again the price is lower for a suite. It is a good value.
The crowd was very friendly and had no issues with the management. We booked last minute on a holiday weekend and were accomodated with no troubles. We arrived before check in time and they were able to get our room prepared with just a 10 minute delay.
There are two pools. One was a more subdued crowd while the other was a bit rowdier. I liked being able to choose based on my mood. Parking was easy and the location worked out just fine. The hot tub was a bit too hot, but that is more of a personal preference of mine.
I would definately come back. For the money, it was a great experience.
I think the Elysium is just right...not too boring, but not too rowdy, guests can be playful and friendly, but it's not *too* cruisy or social, etc. I got the cheapest, basic guest room, and it was huge! The location of the room was great too, on the second level overlooking the pool, yet high up enough so that there was no noise (ask for rooms 217 to 222). Yeah, the room furnishings were pretty basic, but who comes to a place like this to spend much time in your room? There was a fun cocktail party on Saturday night. Pools were great (although no one was ever at the smaller one). The "gym" was pretty poor, but I prefer to go to a real gym anyway. The owners seemed friendly enough to me, although I had little interaction. The I'll definitely go back.

Air Boat Tour Questions?
We only have 1 day in Fort Lauderdale after getting off our cruise ship and the one thing we want to do is an Airboat tour. Which ones are the most recommended, and do any of them have hotel pickup?
One thing to know ahead of time
There are no air boat tours within Everglades National Park. These boats are so noisy, and so disruptive to the flora and fauna of this unique, irreplaceable, and highly endangered eco-system, that such tours only occur on private land outside the Park.
RE: Air Boat Tour Questions?
Air boat rides are great. It is a good way to see the everglades up close and personal.
Attached is the link to the best airboat tour company in Ft. Lauderdle. There are others west of Miami but this one is just fine. They have phone #s of people who will transport you from your hotel to their facility.
Or if you are driving just head west on Griffin road until you get to US Route #27 and there you are.
Which ship are you on? The Enchantment?
RE: RE: Air Boat Tour Questions?
Thank you very much.
We are on "Radiance of the Seas".
RE: RE: Air Boat Tour Questions?
Rediance, nice. We have been on the Serenade, a sister ship. Beautiful ship, big fun.
