TRAVELING WITH TEENAGERS

by LJKFKIII

SCHOOL VACATION IN FORT LAUDERDALE IN APRIL WITH 2 - 17 YR OLD GIRLS. LOOKING FOR SUGGESTIONS FOR A COUPLE OF ADVENTUROUS DAY EXCURSIONS. WE WILL OF COURSE BE DOING THE BEACH & SHOPPING. WHAT DO YOU SUGGEST FOR NIGHT ACTIVITIES WITH TEENS?

Re: TRAVELING WITH TEENAGERS

This is clearly the time of Springbreak, - yes? I suspect that your two 17 year olds will already have a pretty good idea as to the nightlife and springbreak athmosphere. Question is, - are you ready for it. OK, I may be a little cynical, I have a 20 year old, in college and spring break is a big deal. Although Fort Lauderdale had attemted to say NO to spring break activities, their efforts have not completely been successful. Here are a couple of things for you to review regarding spring break in the area.

IT IS SPRING BREAK, BUT THESE TWO ARE IN HIGH SCHOOL, WE WON'T BE TAKEN THEM TO ANY COLLEGE BREAK PARTIES! LAST YEAR WE WENT TO MEXICO & DID ZIP LINING, SNORKELING, KAYAKING ETC. THE ZIP LINING WAS A HUGE HIT, SO WE WERE LOOKING FOR AN EXCURSION WITH ADVENTURE & EXCITEMENT LIKE THAT. WE HAVE ON THE LIST SO FAR, BEACH, SHOPPING, EVERGLADES SAFARI, SOUTH BEACH, MAYBE THE METRO ZOO. USUALLY WE LIKE TO PLAN TO BE AT THE BEACH EVERY OTHER DAY, AND BE ACTIVE THE OTHER DAYS. THEN IF WE CAN FIND A COUPLE EVENING EVENTS TO KEEP THEM BUSY AND OUT OF TROUBLE!

If you have a car I would recomend Billy's Swamp Safari.. it is a tour through the everglades on the Seminole Reservation... lots of cool animals and scenery you wouldnt normally see... you can do a "duck" style tour or airboat. Fun for all ages, we did this tour with college and high school aged kids and everyone enjoyed it.

Travel Tips for Fort Lauderdale

Hit a beach concert, even if...

by Arual

Hit a beach concert, even if they are some old band from the 50's its the beach and fun music (and most often free!) Rent some, or bring your own rollarblades too, and go around the main strip and hit the resturants and bars. The fourth of July parties on the beach, and the people who just said, 'hey want to join our barb-q?' Hey, free food and new people is always fun!

Ballet Themed Dining(Navigator of the Seas)

by cjg1

The dining rooms on the Navigator of the Seas were named after famous ballets: Nutcracker, Swan Lake and Coppelia. Each dining room has costumes from each ballet in display cases as soon as you entered. I'm not a big ballet fan but I thought it was nice. Liz on the other hand is a big ballet fan (she was a ballet dancer from the age of two) and loved the costumes and accents throughout the rooms.

water front bar

by doug48 about pirate republic

the pirate republic is located on the south side of the new river across from the riverwalk in downtown fort lauderdale. this large restaurant and bar caters to boaters and tourists. i have not eaten here but they have a huge deck with a great view of the riverwalk which is a nice place to have an afternoon drink in downtown fort lauderdale. casual.

Dining on the Beach

by TravelJunkie about Aruba Cafe

Aruba Cafe is right on the beach. The best time to go is sunset - and make sure to get a table by the 'glass wall' looking out on the ocean.

After dinner, take a walk down the fishing pier.

They have a Jazz Brunch on Sunday. I have not been, but I hear it is nice. The coconut shrimp is quite tasty, as is the seafood pasta.

Mark's Las Olas- the best place for a splurge

by goingsolo about Marks Las Olas

This is one of my favorite restaurants, when I'm in for a splurge. Mark's is one of those high end places from a food standpoint that stays relatively casual in terms of atmosphere. We're not big on dressing up in South Florida, and jackets required is a rare sentiment, if you'll find it at all these days. So if you're looking for high end food in a casual atmosphere, Mark's is the place to go. There are actually 4 locations in South Florida; South Beach, Boca Raton, Palm Beach and this one on Las Olas

The menu changes daily and has some imaginative combinations which may sound unusual in print but come out spectacular when tasted. I've never been disappointed here, especially when it comes to anything seafood.
