Favorite place to stay in Fort Lauderdale, FL!

When traveling to Fort Lauderdale, FL, this is the first hotel I check for vacancies. It is always extremely clean and the staff is very courteous. The hot breakfast is great as well. Varieties of dishes like, Waffles, cereal, donuts make their breakfast no ordinary "complimentary breakfast". The room was modern; it was so spacious and so clean. The beds where super comfortable, room had a TV, large bathrooms, a refrigerator and microwave. We knew we had made the best decision. Within walking distance of the hotel there are restaurants, Malls and shops. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. It's nice to see a manager who goes above and beyond to exceed guest expectations. We where very satisfy with our stay. We will certainly be staying here on our next trip to the area.

Unique Quality: Free 'Bear Bites' breakfast & WiFi.

Car rental at port - additional info

by Vita500

A question similar to the previous post:

I'll be arriving at Miami airport and plan to take a rental car to drive up to Fort Lauderdale before the cruise. After my return, I plan to do another rent and drive up further north (both will be one-way rentals). Is there a rental car agency directly at the port side or would I need to take a taxi from/to the rental agency?

It would be very helpful to know for our planning...

Thanks already in advance!

Cheers,
Robert

I know one of the major rentals has a location not to far from the port and runs a shuttle. Last year, we were to fly into MIA, rent a car for a couple of days, return it to the port, and cruise. I had a reservation with, I think, either Budget or Avis that had a place less than a mile from the cruise port where I could drop the car off and take a shuttle to the port. We ended up forced to cancel the trip a few days before so I can't really help you with details.

The closest car rental to Port Everglades is the Budget Rent a Car location at
1515 SE 17th Street, Fort Lauderdale, Fl. 33316. Their phone number is 954-761-7231. The next closest is Hertz at Bahia Mar, call them at 954-828-1887.

Thanks for the answers!
Frankly speaking, after our arrival at MIA, we'd actually prefer to take either bus or taxi and head towards a hotel at downtown Fort Lauderdale right away. However, after checking the Miami airport website, it seems like it's not going to be easy to get to FL by bus (I was just reading about the SuperShuttle but when checking their website I'm always told that Miami Airport is not available) and taxis are pretty costly (80USD). Hence, I thought of staying a night around Miami and rent a car the next morning. However, seeing that car rental agents are receiving a surcharge on one-way rentals and the drop-off is not going to be that easy, isn't a taxi actually worth it?

Did anyone ever make the trip from MIA to hotels in Downtown Fort Lauderdale?
Would be happy for any feedback or new ideas.

Thanks again!

Cheers,
Robert

A Taxi from MIA will cost around $100.00 but three adults will fit in one taxi.
You can get a small child in the taxi with you as well. Super Shuttle charges around $35.00 per person and may stop at other peoples hotels on the way. If you do the math it seems cheaper and quicker by taxi. I do not recommend dragging your luggage onto the Tri-Rail or any other method of transportation.
If you rent a car in Miami and drop it at the airport in Fort Lauderdale, you will save the most money, if they don't hit you with a drop charge.

Travel Tips for Fort Lauderdale

by curious_grg

Stroll down Las Olas Blvd. any night and listen to jazz, take a boat ride on the Intracoastal waterway, shop at the Galleria, drink Irish beer at McGuire-Hill's Irish Pub, drive down A-1-A and drink in the atmosphere. Try some out-of-the way dining experiences like Southport Raw Bar-great oysters on the half shell and other sea food. You can dock your boat up at many restaurants. No need to dress up at most places. I miss the sound of the waves and the blueness of the skies.
I miss the great restaurants-almost too numerous to mention.
One I love is Burt and Jack's. It's right in Port Everglades and you can watch the cruise ships while you eat.
Also any place on Las Olas. That's where the 'beautiful' people hang out. Fun to just people watch.

Sally O'Briens

by goingsolo

Sally O' Brience is an Irish Pub located on the first level of Beach Place. its a nondescript kind of place, but the band is fantastic and the service is friendly. In addition to the indoor restaurant and bar, there's an outdoor bar area for those who want to get away from the music and people watch.

Great Atmosphere, Live Music and Good Drinks

by cjg1 about Explorer's Lounge(Emerald Princess)

The Explorer's Lounge is one of the larger lounges aboard the Emerald Princess . The space has numerous chairs, sofas, a bar area and a stage/dancefloor area. The decor of the lounge is done up in blues and gold with Asian themed artwork and acents. The lounge had several bands playing throughout the cruise as well as a funny as hell comedian.

We spent some time here listening to two comedy shoes, a band and enjoying some drinks with friends before some dancing. Casual

Delicious steak!!

by AnjoLuci about Jackson's SteakHouse

Jackson's Steakhouse, located adjacent to the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale on sophisticated Las Olas Boulevard, carries on the tradition of the great American steakhouses. Jackson's is reminiscent in style of a private men's club with its rich mahogany paneling, high-beamed ceilings, brass trim, marble accents and warm fabrics. The spectacular setting befits the classic steakhouse menu. Steak!!!

Burgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken and Fries

by cjg1 about Trident Grill

The Trident Grill was a great place to have a burger, fries, hot dog or chicken sanwich after a dip in the pool. The grill opens at 11am and serves made to order food which is actually pretty good. Liz and I enjoyed several tasty burgers and fries from here during our cruise.

While we were in line one day we discovered th room service burgers, hot dogs, fries and chicken come from this grill. The burgers were pretty good. The bun wasn't half bad and the fries were nice and crispy.
