Major shopping stores like Macy's will be closed on Jan 1st. The stores will close at 6pm or 9pm on Dec 31st. Convenience stores and gas stations will be open on New Years Day, grocery stores closed.

Thank you, we are looking at Best Buy, much better deals on electronics then here! We should assume then that they will be closed..

Best Buy is a great company. They will be closed on New Year's Day, I'll bet. They will be open New Year's eve until 9pm, probably. They have a store locator on their web site. You could find the nearest store to your hotel and call or e-mail them to find out for sure.
Now that I think about it, they might be open new Year's Day. That is a big holiday, but not like Christmas, and we are a very $ orientated society.

by Tolik

Museum of Art contains 20th century art. A collection of works from the CoBrA movement is a highlight.
The name CoBrA derives from the initial letters of Copenhagen, Brussels and Amsterdam, the capitals of the home countries of a group of expressionist painters who experimented with fantastic imagery from 1948-51. The museum displays works in a wide range of media by Karel Appel, Pierre Alechinsky and Asger Jorn, the movement’s leaders. In addition, African and South Pacific art is on display.

o'hara's irish pub has been on las olas blvd since the 1980's. it is a bar only and does not serve food. smoking is allowed in the bar. good beer selection and mixed drinks are available. in the evenings they offer live jazz, blues, and classic rock. a fun place to visit on las olas. casual.

Driving

by cjg1

Getting around the area by car is very easy with well labeled road signs and easy to follow highway systems. The only thing that is bad about car travel is the traffic due to construction and car accidents along the way. I don't mind the construction traffic but the accidents around this area are way too frequent.

A SUSHI BUFFET WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED

by moiraistyx about Kyojin Buffet of Ft. Lauderdale

When you think of sushi, the first thing that comes to mind usually is not buffet. When Jason told me he was bringing me to a sushi buffet, all I could think of was food poisoning. Alas this was definitely not the case with Kyojin. To my surprise, Kyojin, puts out small portions of it's rolls and sashimi just to prevent this. What is put out is also chilled to perfection. One of my favorite things there were the rolls with the caviar (fish eggs) and the cucumber and avocado. They also had cooked crab legs which were fantastic. I must have eaten more than a dozen of them. Jason made at least 3 trips up to the counter. The wait staff was very prompt at removing dirty plates from the table and at making sure you always had a full pitcher of saki. This is a great opportunity for a sushi virgin to try a wide variety of sushi and sashimi. I would most definitely come back here again. the crab legs

Tour the Everglades on an Airboat
See the Everglades up close and personal . . . Very interesting even if a little scary . . . Professional guides . . . Visit a replica of an 18th Century Indian Village . . . Lots of gators and other wildlife . . . If you love Florida, you must see it this way . . . BEWARE, very loud
