Popular Gay Nightspot
by yooperprof about Georgie's Alibi
Georgie's is a popular gay "meta-bar" in the popular gay village of Wilton Manors. The bar is located on a gay-themed "strip" in the middle of a shopping center with several other gay-owned businesses, so you can do a lot of your gay-things all in one stop here.
Georgie's is a cheerful place with several different rooms, each with a distinctive character and all happily free of attitude. There's a cafe here, good drink specials, occasional performances, a video bar, pool tables, etc etc etc.
On the downside, there's a certain generic quality to the place - it didn't particular seem "Floridian" when I was there. Ft. Lauderdale has developed into the gay mecca of Florida, so I'll have to explore some other places when next I return.
Funky stuff
by arttrekker about Gateway shops
If you are into funky don't miss Gateway Plaza shops. Jezebel is a personal favorite with funny cards, funky and retro fashion, soaps, ornaments, etc. Like a trip to a shopper's theme park! Clothes Encounter further down is very cool, gay friendly and well just plain friendly. A t-shirt favorite for my young adult children. Antiques, pet boutique, soaps and art round out the whole area.
Great Coffeehouse
by topcop3003 about Java Boys
This is a great coffeehouse located in Wilton Manors (east Ft. Lauderdale). It is in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors along with many great gay clubs and restaurants. They have a relaxed atmosphere that is a little cruisy and fun. It is set up more like a bar and play dance music videos on six TV monitors and a thumping sound system. There is FREE wireless internet service for customers unlike Starbucks that charges you. Open 8am-Midnight. www.javaboys.net Cafe White Mocha
Dance, Smoke & Heat!
by garridogal about Boom
Boom is your basic Gay Dance Club. It's packed full of beautiful men, the cocktails flow and you WILL dance! As usual, I got more attention from the men there than I ever do with straight ones, but I've come to deal with the fact that this just must be cuz I'm SO fabulous!!! ; ) I also had a fuzzy Fuscia sweater which I think half the guys wanted to steal! It was fun and we danced a lot. But.... living in Boston I'm no longer used to bars full of cigarette smoke and it was really hot too. In short: fun club - poor circulation! Whatever... The less the better!
Disney Gay Day Info
by rkyle2
"May 30 -- June 1, 2002"
Gay Day at Disney World's Magic Kingdom.
Disney does not officially endorse or sponsor Gay Day, which began eight years ago and attracts more than 100,000 gay men, lesbians, bisexuals. Gays and lesbians who attend the event wear red shirts to identify themselves. But, Disney DOES help in the promotion of various aspects of Gay Day.
Disney does not tell guests about Gay Day, but it does allow upset guests to exchange their passes for other parks.
"Our concept is when you come here, you're kind of escaping the everyday realities of the world, and you're immersing yourself in a magical experience -- and we want everybody to enjoy their vacation," Disney spokesman Bill Warren said.
Homosexuals support Disney because the company hires homosexuals and extends benefits to same-sex partners. Disney defends its policies, saying they are nondiscriminatory.
"Disney has decided that it will be the platform that endorses homosexuality," said the Rev. Flip Benham, Operation Rescue's national director.
A few Operation Rescue members went into the park with Bibles in hand to evangelize and film the gays and lesbians with video cameras. They were tailed at all times by a dozen Disney security officers and sheriff's deputies.

Quotes from the gay & lesbian newsmagazine Web site, The Advocate:
"the 125,000-plus gay people wear red shirts (a dress code meant to identify the gay folk to one another)"
"Disney may say it doesn’t favor “specialty groups,” but we know IT SECRETLY DOES. How else can you explain the presence of disco diva Taylor Dayne booked conspicuously on Saturday, June 3, at Pleasure Island?"
"Every year, Watermark (the company that publishes Orlando’s gay newspaper) puts on the Beach Ball, a private nighttime party at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park. Five thousand, five hundred gay men and lesbians on water slides is a sight to behold. Typhoon Lagoon also features a relaxing lazy river where you can tube around all the action, making new friends as you “just happen to” bump into that cutie in the next raft"
"Some friends of mine got down and dirty on Pirates of the Caribbean in that theme park and had a group of cast members applauding them when they finished the ride."http://www.advocate.com/html/stories/814/814_gaydays.asp

Hello: where is good for 2 gay guys to stay near the gay area that is good value?
by Lostboys
Hello:
Not sure how to do all this so please bear with me.
This is our first self planned trip.
Looking to visit Fort Lauderdale Florida.
IS there a best way to arrange the flight? Are there good value places to stay? Like air conditioning, and good value for money. My partner is a senior so prefer a place that is comfortable, but not want to have to spend all our money on the hotel or bed and breakfast.
Extra items, like breakfast or cocktail hour or pool are all a plus.
Thank you for your help really do appreciate it.
Just a little lost here :)
11 days roadtrip around Miami/South Florida
by londonkwda
I'm coming to miami with a friend in April. We're over for 11 days and have a car to drive around in. We were thinking of doing a loop eg. into miami, visit the everlgades, up to port charlotte area, up to orlando for a theme park day, then back down the coast to miami again.
This is just an idea, so I wondered if anyone had suggestions for places to visit that are off the main tourist track. We're looking to do the 'cliched american thing' so staying in motels, go to a basketball game, visit local bars etc.
Any ideas/help are much appreciated!

Check out the Kennedy Space Center. The 2 NBA Basketball professional basketball teams in Florida are the Orlando Magic and the Miami Heat. You can purchase tickets ahead of time. You may also want to take in an American Baseball game. The teams in Florida are the Florida Marlins (based in Miami) and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Go to their websites for dates and ticket information.

I agree about visiting the Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral. It is only about an hour or so from Orlando. I would also recommend spending more than one day doing theme parks in Orlando. There are 4 in the Disney complex alone.
Anther thought for your trip: Drive through the keys to Key West. It's an interesting drive and Key West is a fun party town.

Are you kidding?
Florida is all touristy.
Definetly go to the Everglades and ride an airboat.
Go to South Beach in Miami and eat at Joes Stone Crabs.
Key West is a pretty far drive but there is Key Largo which is more fun and not as gay.
You could also try the west coast like Marco Island, Sanibel Island etc.
Dont forget there is good diving especially wrecks.
You could also go deep sea fishing.
Something really different, you could take a cheap flight or boat to the Bahamas.
