A resort

In almost each travel in USA, I take a hotel through HOTWIRE. I choose a not precise localisation and a type of hotel. If the choice is bad we are trapped because the card is debited and they do not pay back.

During our Florida travel in November 2007, I chose a resort in Fort Lauderdale to close the trip. The localisation was not great. The hotel was not close to the city center and there were few restaurants nearby. But it was just on the ocean.

Unfortunately, the weather turned bad during our stay : rain and wind and the temperature dropped seriously.

The patrons are families or prefessional customers (people attending a congress during our stay).

We pay 128.77$ per night, including tax, but the room was facing the city and not the see (+ 50$ to get a room on the beach).

Unique Quality: Room : very large, clean, and comfortable, with a king bed (room 923)
Bath room : tub with shower. Vanity area with sink
Amenities : air contionning, TV with premium channels, fridge, micro wave, coffee maker, save, dryer, iron. But my wife said there were not a sufficient number of drawers.
Internet : in room on TV 9.95$ + tax per day, 15 min free in the business center at each session.
Breakfast : from 7AM to 11 AM, gorgeous, with pastries and fruits. A man is on duty to cook eggs and omelets (not complmentary).
Pool : outdoor pool with lazy river
Beach : direct access to the beach. The chairs and towels are free but the unbrella worths 15$ a day
Parking : underground valet parking ( 6$ + tip %c)
Ice cream parlor : it is in premises and it supplies enormous ice creams for a decent price (2.95$ for 1 scoop).

More about Pelican Grand Beach Resort Fort Lauderdale

Exceeded all of our greatest expectations!

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I stayed at the pelican Beach Resort for our honeymoon and it exceeded all of our expectations. The hotel is more beautiful than the pictures. The staff was always helpful and friendly, the view was breath taking from our room overlooking the ocean, the food was absolutely delicious, and the location of the resort is perfect. It is located on a private beach only a short walk to main strip of Ft. Lauderdale.
The only two complaints we had were the pool closed way to early, around 5:00 pm, and the sodas were very over priced, just order a margarita. But besides that we never wanted to leave. We will be back again!

I'll be back!!!

This is a brand new hotel + 1 reamaining tower from the old hotel. The old tower is called 'The Sun Tower'. I believe smoking is allowed there, and that's the extent of what I know about it since I was in the new hotel the whole time. All reviews prior to Dec 27 2004 refer to that building.

Now for the new building. It opened at the end of december. The fitness center, restaurant, and 10+11th floors, are not open as of 3/11. Other than that, everything else is open. Food is served in the bar area and offers a full menu.

We stayed in a 2 queen bed suite. What a gorgeous room. The details like crown molding, solid wood doors, stylish furniture, bathroom fixtures, etc.. truly make the room special. The paneled glass wall that seperates the sleeping area from the living area is great. You can see out to the ocean from your bed or close the blinds and have privacy and watch TV while the kids sleep. Worked out great for us. Just a great room.

The pool area was perfect for us. Towels, umbrellas, and life vests are provided at the pool area. Beach lounges are provided, and food/drink service is provided throughout. I highly recommend the quesadilla with a margarita on the rocks. Me and my wife made that order at least once a day. The pool itself is nice. If you have young kids, it is the best pool on the face of the earth. It has a walk in beach style entrance, which allowed my young children to enter and leave at will, which if any of you have spent time hiking the kids in and out of the pool will truly appreciate. The Lazy river was a cool novelty.

The veranda overlooking the beach was special. The public areas are gorgeous. Continental breakfast was well done. The staff was always friendly, always accomadating. There is a $7 a day valet fee. Now it now, accept it, and enjoy the service.

Just thought I'd mention, there were no spring breakers at this hotel. I'd guess the no smoking policy if nothing else keeps them away. It was a mix of young families and older travelers.

Think that covers it. I'll be returning as soon as my travel fund is replenished.

Will absolutely return!!

We are 20 something couple that just returned from a weeks stay at the Pelican and we can not say enough about it! We did not want for anything the entire week. From the moment we pulled into the hotel and the valet guy took our car ($7/day- which we knew) and the bellboy took our bags, we were treated like royalty. Everyone was very friendly and nice. They even delivered our groceries to our room so we didn't have to drag all the bags up! We stayed in an ocean view king suite which was gorgeous with a wrought iron bed, (which was more comfotable than my own bed at home!) armoires for the tv, fridge and microwave... all very homelike, we forgot we were in a hotel! The beach was just off the back porch- beach towels and chairs provided- although get a chair by 10 am or lay in the sand (not a big deal for us.) It was clean and beautiful. There was even a wedding there during our stay. We didn't do the pool much because it seemed to be pretty full most of the time primarily with familes. But it was a nice area with a walk in pool and the lazy river was fun. The resaurant was open for breakfast and lunch during our stay and the food was incredible. We dined out several times and lunch at the pelican was our favorite of them all! Try the Blackened Mahi sandwich-delicious!! And the frozen mudslides kept us coming back- a little dangerous when you can just "sign them to the room!" The concierge was extremely helpful in planning activities and there was highspeed internet access in the lobby as well. One of my favorite features was the old fashioned popcorn popper in the bar... you could help yourself to a cup of fresh popped popcorn anytime of day, take it out to the porch and watch the waves from a rocking chair-perfect!! The staff was also very accomodating when we needed to stay an extra night after getting bumped from our flight. They told us to pack our bags and go about our day and they moved the bags into the new room when it was ready! If we had to come up with any negatives it would be that the hotel is not done yet, the top floors are still under construction and we could hear it from the room on the 6th floor, but usually not until 9am so it didn't bother us. Also the fitness center was not complete which we were counting on, but we took some beautiful runs down the beach instead.
We will definately be back to the Pelican, and hopefully everything will be complete by then. If you go, enjoy the deluxe treatment and be prepared to do alot of tipping. But they deserve it because the staff is happy to help and you won't lift a finger!

Night & Day!

Spent the weekend March 18-20, 2005 at this new hotel far from the maddening crowds of the Elbow Room. I had stayed at the old property before renovations. That was a tired deal and gladly history. This new facility is beautiful and is actually on the beach so there is no A1A between you and the Atlantic. Our room was huge. More like an Embassy Suites set up. Easily handles a family of four although we were only 2. Great for entertaining guests. Standard room extended the width of the building with a private balcony on Ocean side and a public veranda with rocking chairs on the A1A side. The living and bed area are separated by a glass privacy wall which can be closed with blinds. Nice.

Property has all the amenities with a nice pool area and beach. Everything is brand new! Don't worry if the beach chairs are all claimed on the Beach before you wake up. The property next door is part of the complex and has plenty more. Staff was friendly, but a little disorganized. I'm sure they will work out the kinks as they get more experienced. Only complaint was the breakfast buffet did not have any yogurt! The tube ride at the pool was a little too fast, but fun. I'll be back.

Nice stay at the new Pelican

Stayed 3/22-3/25/05 with my wife and two young childeren (5 & 7) and enjoyed our stay. The hotel is literally on the beach which is great. The pool is not huge, but nice. The lazy river pool is a real bonus and the kids loved it. The new building is very nice and the staff was friendly. Valet parking is a bargain at $7/day. The concierge was nice, but not very helpful. She sent us to Bravo, which was nice, but not very kid friendly and didn't mention Charley's Crab which is much closer, on the water, and has a kid's menu.
The room was nice and it is a bonus that everything is new. There was a lot of noice coming in from the hallway since it is not carpeted, but it wasn't a big problem. The restaurant is just fine. Buffet breakfast is ok but nothing special. Lunch the same and the service is not very fast. Still ok so you can stay by the pool/beach without having to leave to eat.

avoid the sun tower

by A TripAdvisor Member

we stayed here in march prior to our cruise departure the next day. We stayed in the sun tower. The main hotel was very nice and clean but this building is still not updated. The room was clean but in need of serious work. It was good size and had a kitchen but the paint was peeling and you could tell everything in the room was old. We looked at the pictures of the hotel on the website but it very discreetly leaves this building out of the picture. The staff was very helpful. The pool area and the beach are very nice at the main hotel. This building also has a standard hotel pool available and it seems they use it for the child care area. I would stay here again but only if I could get a room in the main tower.

Loved the Pelican Beach Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member JD3

We stayed March 25-29th. Loved everything about this hotel. The 10th and 11th floor are now open, and the fitness center is on the 10th overlooking the ocean. All of the staff went out of their way to be helpful and friendly. There is complimentary coffee all day, popcorn, newspapers, and internet use in their business center. The restaurant is now open for breakfast, which includes a nice buffet with a waffle and omelet station.

Is Pelican Beach Resort Condo a good place to stay in Destin?

by Itsgana

We are planning a trip to Destin, Fl area this summer and are considering staying at the Pelican Beach Resort Condominiums. Has anyone ever stayed there or can anyone tell me good or bad about this place? I haven't made reservations yet. We want to stay oceanfront in a good family oriented area with a nice stretch of beach. Any feedback on this place would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
