More about Renaissance Fort Lauderdale Hotel
Reaching accommodations from airports
by alza
Hi Rebecca,
Further advice & links about transportation from Miami Airport to Fort Lauderdale, based on my "old" personal experience. I often went to Deerfield Beach (NORTH of Ft.Lauderdale), from either Miami or Ft.Lauderdale Airports.
First I saw where the Renaissance Hotel Ft. Lauderdale is located.
Then saw that the TRI-Rail Ft. Lauderdale is at Broward Blvd and NW 22nd Street (by the I-95) -- not far from Renaissance though you'd need a cab (or bus, but cab is simpler.)
NOTE: TRI-Rail also goes to Ft.Lauderdale Hollywood Airport at Dania Beach, careful to exit at right stop.
CHECK-OUT Renaissance Hotel website for options they suggest from either airports. Hotel does not provide shuttle service.
Also, they leave out the TRI-Rail option from Miami Airport suggestions but I think it could be a good one. Look into TRI-Rail from BOTH airports.
SuperShuttle Shared Ride Van Service from Miami Airport to Ft.Lauderdale is @USD80, expensive compared to TRI-Rail.
I once needed to go from Ft.Lauderdale Airport to Deerfield Beach (NORTH)to visit parents who had their own car there -- so didn't need to rent one. I was advised to use the Airport's Shared Ride Van Service.
I landed in Ft.Lauderdale at 6:00 a.m., everything was closed. Waited until 9:00 a.m. for a Van to be full enough to go NORTH. Drop off at my parents door, all went well. Reasonable fare, USD13 I think, I gave the drive USD20 (not that you *have* to tip but I only had 20s.)
Mention is sometimes made of need to RESERVE Van Service but that was NOT necessary when I used it. You register with the attendant, giving him your direction. He's the dispatcher to North and South & sends out vans when they have enough customers to go.
With this in mind, consider all options in links below. BTW, Broward is the name of the county where Ft.Lauderdale is located.
"MIAMI Intl Airport: Tri-Rail commuter train station is located just outside the airport. Free shuttle service to & from the train station is available the lower level Central Terminal E bus station to passengers using this service. Please contact Tri-Rail directly to inquire about the rates & schedules for the train service. (NOT NECESSARY, see schedules somewhere on the links.)"

Enjoy your cruise and Ft.Lauderdale after it. You may enjoy going to Boca Raton, among other things there's a small boutique-type mall I really liked there (shopping and good lunch places.)
Superb!!!

Great hotel, we were there for 4 nights, great location thats close to downtown and the beaches. Staff was remarkable, professional and well trained.
Hotel very clean, nice business center to use and check e-mail. Pool is very nice and they gave free munchies in the afternoon.
Fitness center small.
Would definatly stay there again. Prices were great.
Restaurant not very good
OK but no balconies, I'd opt for another.

This was a nice hotel but given the choice I wouldn't stay there again because the rooms do not have balconies. I'd opt for Hyatt Pier 55 or Marriott Marina next time which does have balconies and views. If this isn't important then you'll like this hotel, nice and clean room.
Would definitely stay here on next Ft. Lauderdale trip

We stayed here overnight before getting on the Caribbean Princess ship. The staff was great, room was perfect and very relaxing atmosphere. The shuttle will take you to the local malls and also do a pick-up for no charge, however we did extend a tip to both drivers. John (at the Concierge desk) is wonderful- very friendly and accommodating in getting you to the malls or the airport. Would definitely stay here again!!
a big mistake

We stayed here after our cruise. We waited 6 hours for our room. The clerk informed us that as soon as our room was ready he would inform us, so we waited in the lobby, as it was not possible to go any where be fore we dropped off our luggage. We wasted most of our day waiting to check in.
Staff was rude. When we did check in and got to our floor it smelled of mildew.our room had to be recleaned because there were hair in the tub, toilet was leaking.linen on bed did not look like it was changed from previous guest.Room service, we were so tired so we thought we would order room service this was around 4pm we were told they had closed because of some staffing issue. We decide to try breakfast before leaving the next morning,They never got the order right it was two of us they was sending the order for one.I CALLED THE MANAGER SHE INFORMED ME We are serving breakfast buffet in the dining room if you were not so lazy you would come down to the dining room. The shock of that made me realize that I should have read a review on this hotel before making a reservation never again I will always read reviews before booking.I would not recommend this hotel unless service, clean room,or room service is not important.
wonderful place to stay

We arrived early and were promptly given a lovely room on the 3rd floor. Service was wonderful and did enjoy the fresh lemonade and cold water bottles as you entered and left the hotel. I had an issue with the pool which was handled efficiently and to my satisfaction. The hotel is close to the new mall and a few blocks from the water taxi. Great place to stay prior to sailing.
Renaissance all the way!

Bad service
by A TripAdvisor Member
The hotel's entrance and front desk is not clearly
marked. And there is no where to park our car in
front of the hotel while we are trying to check in.
You need to get a parking card from the hotel before
you may park the car inside the garage. It costs $14 a day for the parking.
They advertised about high speed internet service in
the hotel, but they forgot to mention that it costs
an extra $10 a day for the service.
Check out was really slow. They claim to have express
check out, but the billing the promised under your door
never showed up so we had to wait in line for a long
time before we can check out.
Good service, average rooms

I stayed one night on business using Priceline($60)
Great price for this hotel. Front desk was very efficent and friendly. Hotel provides free lemonade(very good) free bottled water(as you enter) free internet if you use their business center computers.
Parking is $14, most of the other local hotels(non beach) do not charge for parking. Rooms were nice but nothing special, bathroom a little small. Overpriced breakfast but if you stick with cereal it's about $4.
Hotel provides best selection of free newspapers that I have seen, WSJ, NY Times, Ft lauderdale paper and USA today.
4* hotel on Priceline, give it a shot there before paying $250 a night.
Nice Hotel Great Location

I've stay at this hotel several times and have always enjoyed my stay. Found the staff to be very accommodating and professional. Love to stay on 17th Street Causeway area; walkable to Convention Center, shopping centers and water bus pick up. Also right across the street you can catch the bus to the beach which is less than 2 miles. There is no parking in front of the hotel, but you can self-park in the parking garage or valet.
