We received two complimentary drink tickets for the restaurant in the hotel. We sat at the bar for twenty minutes watching the bartender stumble around and drop things. She said she would be right with us and never came back. We then watched her lean over the counter very wobbly exposing half of her backside and laugh and chat with other customers at the bar. I have no doubt that she had been drinking on the job.

When we brought this to the attention of the person working behind the desk of the hotel he shook his head and said he would let the restaurant manager know next time he talked to him but did not offer us any type of discount for our troubles or resolution to our problem. We then went back to our room which was comparable to the service we received at the front desk.

Everything was dingy and the room smelled like smoke even though it was a non smoking room. Overall this hotel was not worth the short distance to the airport. Also, they had no vending machines, only overpriced sodas in the gift shop which you had to stand in line at the front desk behind people checking in just to purchase.

Great Hotel!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member CAulner

We stayed at the Rodeway Inn before and after our cruise out of Miami. They shuttled us to and from the airport no problem. The manager told us later that they could've shuttled us to the Miami port for cheaper than the cruise line. I'll definitely do that next time. Would've saved alot of hassle. Loved Magambo and Juan, the shuttle drivers! They were there right on time and they were so entertaining. Izzy the manager was awesome...hysterically funny and handled the chaos of people all coming in at once from the cruises really well. We had a great stay. The only thing I would ask for is a fitness room. And there's not much within walking distance to do. But, I'd definitely stay there again!

Will never stay there again, staff is very rude

by TripAdvisor Member hotelcritic15

We stayed at this property on our way to a cruise and one night on our way back. We were very dissapointed in the staff service (night audit clerk and shuttle driver) We needed to be at the airport to catch our flight by 6:30 am. Their shuttle driver showed up late for work (6:00 am was when shuttle service began) He slowly walks in, slowly retrieves the keys, slowly walks around all the while my family is standing outside waiting to catch our flight. I finally had to go into the lobby and let them know that I was beginning to panic since we had a flight to catch. Staff had no concern or sense of urgency what so ever even with the shuttle driver showing up 20 min. late for work. Front desk (night audit) clerk on January 5, 2008 was possibly the rudest employee I have ever experienced. One guest who was a hurry to catch his flight said he needed to get to the airport ASAP. The employee literally told him "it was not her problem" Wow.
Room was dirty and not well kept. Bathroom was in bad shape. After returning home, I tried contacting the GM of the property to let them know how rude their night staff was, after leaving 4 messages, no return call. The GM must already be aware of the problems that exist at this property. Too bad. We will NEVER stay there again. Too many other places to chose from.

Not Worth $150.00

We stayed here one night before our cruise. We were with 4 other couples a total of 13 people. we waited at the airport to be picked up for over an hour. when we finally got to the motel only 1 room out of 5 was ready. one of the other couples and ourselves booked our rooms together so we would be side by side. well that never happened they had us down for 1 room and them for a room with a king size bed and they had their 3 kids with (how's that gonna work?) i do have to say our travel agent made a mistake when booking the rooms however he called and fixed it. and they even faxed him a paper stating the correction. but their person never made the correction on their computer. so their people working there said well the correction wasn't made so it's not their problem. anyway when we finally got our rooms we were all spread all over. we were not along side anyone. my husband and i paid $150.00 for the 2 of us and our friends paid $150.00 for 5 of them(something i don't quite understand) their room had a fridge, micro-wave and a coffee pot. ours did not. our toilet ran all night our hot water knob in the shower didn't work. the furniture was old and out dated, and here's something funny our window had a blanket nailed around the window for a curtain. i would not stay here again even if they gave me a free room. their foyer looks new and updated but just walk out the back to where the rooms are and it's a total different story. i'd like to mention we did eat at their restaurant and what do you know we had a waitress who only worked there 2 days and she had to keep going and asking someone for the info we asked her for. and when it came time to pay the bill that was messed up. when we finally got that taken care of and we paid the bill she never brought our change back. we were going to leave a tip anyway but don't take the change for granted and think that's your tip. We just don't feel it was worth a $150.00.

Would be okay for 59 bucks a night

At around $159, this motel is ridiculously overpriced -- its quality of room, location, and service would be tolerable for a $59 bargain-by-the-interstate type old motel. But it preys upon unwary folks needing a place to stay before and after their cruises. Frozen snowbirds grateful to thaw out and desperate to see a palm tree and a small swimming pool (without ice) may even think it's Valhalla. But if you are a southerner not fleeing snow or ice, and you are in a car rather than flying into Fort Lauderdale, you undoubtedly expect more for the money, and probably will be disappointed with the Rodeway. The shuttle service to the cruiseships is virtually the only reason to stay here, but beware -- it is unpredictable and chaotic. We lucked up and made it to our ship via the shuttle, but returned via a taxi -- plus paid $70 (a $10/day fee) to the motel for leaving our car there. Should have just driven directly to the harbor and parked there. Our room and the bathroom both had a strong funky urine/disinfectant odor. We tried to get used to it, being there (unfortunately) for two nights prior to our cruise, since we were staying there to meet some New York friends (who found this place online) for a few days before we all sailed. The maid at the Rodeway was a sweet, personable lady -- but the front desk people were usually swamped with people, and telephone calls for reservations -- and service and communications were difficult and inefficient. The lobby was often sheer bedlam. Although there is a restaurant at the Rodeway, we went elsewhere for dinner and can't comment on the food at the Rodeway, except to note that at night it was being served only in the bar and on the bar patio, which is fine if you like loud music, raucous carousing, and lots of cigarette smoke. A crowd of college kids was partying it up and thoroughly enjoying it. But not our style. The free included breakfast consists of stale powdered doughnuts and small muffins. Most opted to pay around seven bucks more and get the bacon and eggs. The motel is at an odd place at the juxtaposition of highways and interstates; you have to do a U-turn on road 84 to get to it; if you miss the turn-in, you are on the onramp for I-95 to Miami, so watch out. We ended up going to eat at a nearby funky retro diner called Lester's -- head east on 84; it's on the right side of the road. Established in 1976, but full of locals enjoying reasonably priced bountiful breakfasts and other meals. Sort of like New Jersey transplanted to south Florida -- but hey, New York-New Jersey-Latin America -- that's what south Florida culture is all about, right? Anyway, Lester's is large and bustling, with good, unpretentious food and cheerful, efficient, maternal waitresses. Well, the Rodeway is okay -- survivable -- but at $159 is ridiculous. Next time, we'll pay more and enjoy our favorite Fort Lauderdale place, The Pillars at New River. But mind you, you could do worse than the Rodeway. Its next door neighbor, the Red Carpet Inn, just received the dubious distinction of being on Travel Advisor's top ten dirtiest hotels in America. At least the Rodeway is reasonably clean. And it is a straight shot to the port and airport, if that matters to you.

Absolutely Wonderful!

Stayed here after our connecting flight got canceled and we were stranded in Ft. Lauderdale (do NOT fly Spirit Airlines). The staff was extra friendly and extremely accommodating, and helped to erase the hassle and stress inflicted by Spirit. The rooms were clean and nicely decorated. The pool was immaculate, warm and delightful. An extra plus: we didn't have to travel outside of the hotel to find a restaurant (which was extra nice since we were all starving after a day of hell). Also, Juan had to make 2 trips to fit our whole group and our luggage; he was more than helpful in loading/unloading all of our things and very friendly, and even kind enough to come into work early the next day so that we would be able to arrive at the airport for our 5:30 AM flight (the shuttle doesn't normally begin to operate until 5:30). I would definitely stay here again and am going to recommend it to any of my friends that need to stay over in Ft. Lauderdale.

Very Average!

by TripAdvisor Member NickC9762

This hotel looks like money has been put into it to make it more modern, but it just isnt quite there. We checked in around 1 AM, where the woman behind the front desk had absolutely no sense of urgency, causing us to wait 30 minutes for her to check in the man in front of us. The rooms were clean and comfortable, there is a bar in the hotel that is open extremely late, which doesnt exactly attract the best crowd. We got up in the morning and went to breakfast. We got there about 20 minutes before it closed so it took about 15 minutes to finally get a drink and a menu, even though we approached someone when we got there who said that they would be right over. The breakfast was good though, and we had a conversation with the hotel manager who was extremely nice. For the money that you pay (around $100) I would definitely stay here the night before boarding a cruise again.

Great place to stay and eat !!!!!

by TripAdvisor Member Castaway33

We called the hotel shuttle as soon as we picked up our luggage at the Ft Lauderdale Airport. Hotel staff stated shuttle would pick us up in 10 minutes. After 2 more phone calls and an hour later, we hailed a cab to take us to hotel.

When we arrived at the hotel our rooms (3) were ready and the staff was more than friendly. We all found our rooms to be more than adequate.

After dropping our luggage in our room we went to the restaurant for lunch. We found the staff very friendly and efficient. The food was better then I anticipated and the price was very reasonable.

In the morning we went back to the restaurant for breakfast, where we ran into the Vice President Izzy Fintz, who asked us we were enjoying our stay, and if everything was all right. We told him about the trouble we had with his shuttle service not picking us up from the airport, and that we had to pay for a cab. Izzy, profusely apologized and picked up the breakfast tab for all eight of us. This more than compensated us for the cab fare. Izzy then arranged a private shuttle for us to the cruise port.

We will definitely stay there again.

Average Hotel in a Great Location

by TripAdvisor Member CruiseTraveler72

We stayed at the Rodeway Inn & Suites the night before our cruise ship left from Fort Lauderdale. We chose this hotel based on its close proximity to Port Everglades and its free airport shuttle.

We soon learned, however, that the airport shuttle stops service at 10:00 p.m. Since our flight arrived at 11:00 p.m., it cost us a $20 cab fare to get from the airport to the hotel.

The service at the check-in counter was slow, and the staff was not overly-friendly or helpful.

The room was nothing special, but it was clean, and that's all we really wanted for just a one-night stay.

The hotel did offer free shuttle service to Port Everglades the next morning. It's first come-first served, though, so sign up as soon as you check in. Otherwise, it's another $20 cab fare to the port.

We would probably stay here again, just because of its location between the airport and Port Everglades. But we will arrive earlier to take advantage of the airport shuttle next time.

Great Place To Stay

by TripAdvisor Member TopCopRet

I've stayed at many hotels and motels through work and vacation. This was a wonderful place to stay we were a party of 10 with 4 grand children. This place was very clean, the staff to include mangement were so helpful. The shuttle was a big help as we needed to make a few stops at some local stores, we had to wait between Airport runs, but it was not a problem. The breakfast buffet was very good (no) it was excellent the food was hot and fresh. When I return to Ft Lauderdale I will return to Roadway, without question. Thank-You Roadway.

Ft. Meyers Airport to Ft. Lauderdale Airport (cruise port)

by rw-bigfoot

We're going on a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale (in Dec.) but it looks like our plane tickets will land us in Ft. Meyers (140 mile away) are we better off paying the higher price & land in Ft. Lauderdale or can we get a shuttle from airport to airport? I know we can rent a car but just driving the 140 miles and turning the car back in seems like a waste of time. What's your thoughts on this? The cruise port is 2 miles from Ft. Lauderdale airport. This is our first cruise. Holly

I suppose there is a story behind the airport choice, but I normally fly into FTL and head to the port which as you have discovered is quite close. If you made the plans with the cruise company check on their transfers. If you made the flight plans on your own, then... I'd check on reticketing to FTL it's much more convenient. You might also check Miami, but that still leaves a bit of a commute to the FTL airport.

I agree. The drive is relatively easy and straightforward, but I would fly to Ft. Lauderdale. The more transfers you make while traveling, the higher the possibility that Murphy's Law will take effect. Guess you can do the math and compare the costs.

the VT book travel (above) search engine pulled up US Air and United as the better carriers from CV to FLL and all came in about 300-350 but there is probably tax, license, port fees, online agent compensation etc... but there are options.

thanks for the help I know the more VT'ers thinking about our schedule the better :) Holly

Think if you do the numbers and hassle Ft. Laud is a better bet.
Most cruise lines will transfer you directly from baggage areas at Ft. Laud.
airport directly to dockside for a few bucks. Car rental and dropoff 1 way with gas will probably wipe out your savings. Enjoy your cruise either way!

Re: Ft. Meyers Airport to Ft. Lauderdale Airport (cruise port)

thanks for eveyone writing to us about the airports. We're going to go with the direct route into ft. Lauderdale and spend the extra for the tickets. We want a vacation not an hassle of car rental thanks again Holly
