More about Pink Shell Beach Resort & Spa
Perfect Pink Shell!!!
Just had the perfect family vacation at the Pink Shell! We did opt for the larger two-bedroom condo-type unit in the Beach Villas building, which was great. The single bedroom suites in the main building are quite small if you have older children. We made up for some of the extra cost by having most meals in the room, which was easy. The pool is sublime and the food and drink service there is excellent. This hotel is the last one on the end of the island and that makes for some good private walks on the beach and shelling. The staff are super-friendly, there are tons of fun activities for younger children and a really nice "dive-in theater" movie night on Friday where you can swim while watching a movie on a big screen. The property is also very secure, you have to have a room key to go in and out of the beach and the pool area.
The hotel is also an easy walk into the main area of Ft. Myers Beach, with lots of inexpensive restaurants, clubs, and shops, but fare enough away to be away from all the noise and congestion. It's pretty easy to get on and off the island from there as well.
We spent a terrific day on Sanibel Island, driving and walking through the Darling Wildlife refuge - not to be missed if you have wildlife lovers in your family. Had a great lunch at the Green Flash, right on the water where we saw manatees, dolphins, ospreys, and egrets.
Overall this was one of our best vacations ever. We will be back!
Loved the Pink Shell!
My family and I just returned ( Feb. 16th ) from a week at the Pink Shell and we loved it! I did have some concerns given the reviews on this site. We stayed in the White Sands Villas ( main bldg. ) and I strongly recommend it. The room/suite ( 2 Bdrm ) was spacious & beautiful. Floor to ceiling windows, dining area , living room and full kitchen with everything you need including a washer & dryer. Oh yeah and 3 TVs. The master bedroom was quite large. The adjoining bathroom had a jacuzzi tub and walk in shower. The second bedroom was also quite large with two double beds and a closet.
The suite was clean and perfect for my wife and I and our two children ( 12 & 10 ). What a view of the Gulf! They are just about done with the construction on the building next to the White Sands Villas. We did wake up one morning to the sounds of a bulldozer. We didn’t mind, it just meant we could start our day a bit earlier and get down to the awesome heated pool. The kids loved it. The pool has a waterfall ached over the middle and piped in music via underwater speakers! The hotel also offers water sports on the beach. We did jet skis one day and a dolphin tour on jet skis another. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The beach was also beautiful, but the water was a bit cold. We spent most of our time at the pool. On Saturday and Sunday they had live music at the pool bar / grill. ( Bongos ) We ate lunch at Bongos 4 days. The food was very good, but a little pricey. You paid a premium for the convenience, but it was worth it! We never made it to Jo Jo's -- the hotel restaurant, but we heard the food there ( breakfast, lunch & dinner ) was also very good. We had breakfast in our room everyday overlooking the gulf!
The hotel location is also perfect. It is on the north end of the island. You are away from all the stores and other hotels. However, you are only about a mile from Times Square which is loaded with restaurants, shops and a 7/11. It's a pleasant walk. They also run a free trolley so don't despair. Make sure you hit the Winn - Dixie or the Publix to stock up on munchies and anything else you need before you cross the bridge into Ft. Myer's Beach.
As far as local restaurants, we had good luck with Wahoo Willies and the Beach Pierside Grill in Times Square. The food was very good and the prices were reasonable. The fish they served was fresh and tasty. We enjoyed eating dinner outside overlooking the Gulf. We also enjoyed Citrolas in Times Square. It is a little Italian restaurant /pizzeria. The pizza , pasta and sandwiches were very good and very reasonably priced. Try the cheese steak, you'll love it! Ask for Michaele, she's a great waitress! We also ate at The Bridge and Matanzas. Both are fish restaurants, but there are other choices on the menu. The food at both places was excellent. These restaurants are a bit more expensive and less casual than those at Times Square, but we enjoyed them all the same. Thankfully almost all these places had a kids menu so everyone was happy.
We really had a great time at the Pink Shell and are looking forward to another trip there in the near future.
Very nice!!!!!!!! The room was great. The pool was great.
We thought we were in Heaven until we went to visit the beaches of Sanibel (a short drive and $6 toll). The beaches of Sanibel are far better then Fort Myers. Pink Shell great but not the beach.
Outstanding Quality and Location
My wife and I took a second honeymoon to Ft. Myers and decided to try a different hotel. We had stayed at Gull Wing on our first stay which was also a very nice place. We plan on coming back in 2007 and our choice will again be the Pink Shell. The establishment was obviously remodeled and was very clean throughout. The staff was friendly and professional. We stayed in a White Sand villa which overlooked the incredible inground pool AND white beach. The view every morning from the floor to ceiling panoramic windows was beautiful. The room itself was clean and spacious with all of the luxuries of home including internet access for our laptop which kept us in touch with our kids. The bedroom connected to a screened in sitting area which you cold leave open to hear the waves at night. The bathroom was HUGE with a walk in shower(huge) and a garden tub. The main living area had new appliances(including a washer and dryer). The food was reasonably priced(for this kind of establishment) and was very good. We went to other eateries like the Mucky Duck but found that the food at our resort was equally as good for the money. The beach was well kept and we enjoyed the mile walk to the shops, eateries, and Dairy Queen that waited for us at the Pier. We took this walk at least twice a day which gave us a romantic walk along the beach and 4 miles of excercise daily. I really don't have one negative comment for this place. It has a good mix of adult and family fun. The pool was busy but not so loud that it was annoying. The Pink Shell is, in my opinion, the best overall location for your vacation dollar. High quality, great service, professional staff, inground(awesome octopus) pool, sugary white sand beach for a very reasonable price. I don't think you can beat it. Enjoy!
We stayed at the Pink Shell for 7 nights in a "gulf view Studio" room. The room was nice, with a kitchen, free high speed internet access and a great balcony overlooking a pool and white sand beach. It looked like all the rooms had gulf views and balconies. The resort had a lot of unique things to offer, like a fishing pier in the back (lots of fish) and rental equipment. (We highly recommend the wave runner dolphin tour, it was amazing). The staff was friendly and helpful. Though it was peak season there was plenty of parking and the resort was very quiet. The resort is on the quieter side of the island bordering a state park, so there is very little traffic and the beach was never crowded. There was also a free trolly to go further down the beach where there are a lot of shops and a great state park at Lover's Key. During the stay we were suprised that things that are normally overpriced at resorts (i.e. food, drinks, etc) were reasonably priced and even better than some of the surrounding restaurants and stores. There was some construction going on during our stay, but it wasn't disruptive and looks like there will be some really nice new facilities when its complete. Overall we couldn't find anything to complain about and look forward to going back next year!
Excellent resort for kids and adults
We stayed at the Pink Shell in July 2005. We had never been to Ft. Myers, as we always go to Longboat Key, but just playing around I did a search on sunfinder and came up with this and the package was great, so we thought we would give it a try and I am so glad that we did. We were looking for a "cool pool" and kids programs now with our children being 5 and 10. We were not diappointed.
The resort itself is very nice, the buildings were very well kept and the grounds were well maintained. The pool area is absolutely gorgeous and geared towards children with zero entry and a textured bottom so not to be as slippery for the little ones. The octopus on top of the rocks was cute and my kids loved it. The childrens program was great. My 10 year old went everyday and my 5 year old enjoyed the beachside activities as well. If your kids aren't into the program aspect, it doesn't matter because there are plenty of things to do poolside in plain view of parents. My kids made shell crafts, painted coconuts, made sundaes and other beach crafts. It was vey nice to be able to sit by the pool and relax and keep an eye on the kids. There is also a tiki bar beachside and the service was really good, maybe just a little slow due to some new employees, but they were always very nice.
The room was great. We were in the building that is to the left of the newer one. I wasn't sure what we would walk into but I was pleasantly surprised. It was very roomy with 2 bedrooms and 2 baths. The 2nd bedroom had a door outside of the hallway and bathroom that could be closed, which was really nice should there have been another couple. It offered some privacy . There was a washer and dryer so we went home with clean clothes, which is always nice. We had a screened in balcony with a table and chairs, it was roomy enough for us, but not huge.
The beach was the only disappointment. The nearby lake was being released due to alot of rainfall and the water was brown with alot of seaweed and we didn't get in at all. It was really nasty and ugly. However, we did go to Sanibel and Bonita Springs and the water was crystal clear and gorgeous.
There is a little convenience store across the street, which is at the end of the island so there is no traffic. Inside you can get food and drinks and typical items you would see in a resort store. Outside was a fishing pier and you could rent rods and fish. It was great, my children caught several fish and a child caught a small shark while we were there.
The park next door was nice and secluded. We had a photographer meet us there for beach pics and the backdrop was gorgeous.
I highly reccomend the Pink Shell, there are so many things for everyone in the family to enjoy, at every age.
Do your homework and you should be fine!
One year later and getting ready to book a return visit; thought I'd check to see how reviews are holding up. We stayed at Pink Shell last summer in a 1 BR White Sand Villas room and it was wonderful. Recent reviews on this site are accurate...truly fabulous view, full kitchen, washer/dryer, lavish bathroom with thick, fluffy robes and high quality toiletries from their spa, great food poolside, pricey drinks, construction going on dawn til dusk (North side of building, so ask to stay on south end), cleaning staff don't speak much English. Word of warning...you will probably have a look of disappointment on you face when you arrive if you didn't book in the beautiful main building. The exterior of the other buildings show their age and there are no pictures of this on their website. These condo's seem fine though, especially for an extended stay.
Particulars for our visit ...Hotel was SOLD OUT and elevators were at a premium weekend we arrived. Service was still very good. Our 4 yr old locked and closed the bathroom doors at 9 PM (w/no one inside to unlock). We couldn't get them opened so called front desk for a key, which they didn't have. The maintenance man arrived 25 minutes later with a ring of at least 50 keys and worked diligently for another 20 minutes, finally got door unlocked (and promptly marked the key that did the trick!)
....kids LOVED the pool and poolside activities that went on daily. They never wanted to go to the beach! They could swim and play then run over to the craft area when an activity began. One end of the pool is zero-entry and perfect for infants/toddlers. There are extensive shaded areas to sit under if you don't want to bake in the sun. Pool deck was cleaned and washed down each morning. You charge everything to your room, so we didn't need to carry money around (nor did kids, which could be a bad thing!). A limited choice of Starbucks coffee is in Lobby near gift shop. Breakfast from the restaurant was better than some of our lunches (which were also very good). The poolside cafe opens at 11:00. One morning kids wanted to swim early, so we got the main restaurant to put our food in to go boxes and the waitress brought it down to the pool deck w/o complaint.
Some tips: save you room-charge tickets and read your bill prior to going to the check out desk (we had 2 different errors, they were not able to correct it at check out, had to wait for the night auditor to come to compare tickets, finally got the adjustment on my credit card 3 weeks later.) You can preview the bill on your TV. On the evening before or morning of your final check day, ask about a late check out fee. We were able to extend our check out time to SIX (6:00) PM for a $75 fee. Basically we got another day of play for a fraction of the cost. They only do this if not at full capacity.
Lastly, if you are a bargain hunter, once on the hotel's reservation page, click on PROMOTIONS, choose one and it will default to better price points. On the Specials link, they are doing a special right now for stay 3 nights and get the 4th night free (go to specials link on website). Also, check out AAA's website to make a reservation, where I have gotten the best rate on a 1 BR white sands. There is a lower advance pay rate where taxes and fees are included!
