The Sunrise City
"Quiet Ocean Retreat?"
A little over 104 years ago, a quiet fishing village was established on the banks of the Indian River lagoon and the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Over time, the area's industry expanded to include cattle, pineapple and citrus.
The natural splendor and relaxing beauty of the Fort Pierce area, while stunning and worth the trip, has been overshadowed by a large influx of new residents. The groves are slowly disappearing and the cattle becoming restricted-or found in the middle of housing developments. The pineapple plantations have long since moved to Hawaii.
There are many attractions here for tourists, from the waterways and beaches to cultural events and outdoor markets.
