On the Itchnetucknee, In the summer, Bring a cap..
by KARLPORTER56
Just remember to bring some kind of cap besides all that other stuff.... We forgot our first run and I have hundreds of ball caps I never wear,.. However since you are going to be on the river for about 3 hours .. The cap will really help keep the sun off your face.. Disposable camera only.. just in case you fall in. .. I did and I was able to salvage a few pics. Disposable camera will cut your losses if you lose your pics due to dampness..These pics were actually after I had dropped our disposable camera in the water.. Fortunately they kind of came out. Since you park your car at the finish area and catch a shuttle to the beginning you have to come up with some ingenious idea about what to do with your keys.. Either some way to tie them on your person or a spare key box.. I think both are good ideas..Leave the door key in the spare box hiddden on your car.. Leave the ignition key in your car hidden.. The area is very safe but you never know..
Must see a Gator football game...
by pulgaron
Must see a Gator football game at The 'SWAMP'. This is the stadium the Gators beat up their football oponents.
It is loud, loud loud. The Gators dodnot seat down the entire game. So if you have tickets in the student section, be ready to stand the whole game.
Micanopy Historical Society Museum
by tampa_shawn
A quaint little museum that does a wonderful job of painting a picture of what life was like in early Micanopy (the second oldest European settlement in Florida). Various displays provide information on the area's settlement, the Indians, harvesting turpentine and day-to-day life in the area (laundry, mail, getting mail, naval stores, beauty shops...).
The museum is quite nice but the real treat here are the museum's volunteers who are a font of information and knowledge. Charles H was volunteering during our visit and he did an amazing job at making us feel welcome and provided some great information about the European Settlement and later history of the area.
Museum Hours:
* Daily 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
* Donation of $2.00 suggested
