Travel Tips for Gainesville

Itchnetucknee

by KARLPORTER56

You can go tubing down the Itchnetucknee river.. This is a very popular activity for Gainesville residents and almost any Floridian.. It is a clear clear river.. Very safe.. You can rent a tube almost anywhere from High Springs to the state park.. There are clear spring fed coves and it is just a ton of fun especially in the Hot Florida Summer... We encounterd a lightning storm half way down the river aproximately 3 miles long.. They recommend staying low..We did.. nothing happen..I think younger kids..as did our son George prefered Ginnie Springs.. a similar river Very Clear.. Many more coves for swimming.. Scuba underwater caves etc.. Just simply unbeleivably clear water...

Gainsville Florida -

by tampa_shawn

Gainsville is known as the home of the University of Florida (think Gators) but is also a lovely little city in an area of Florida with much to offer.

Gainsville is in a lovely part of Florida and is well known for its outdoor activities...think hiking, biking, snorkeling, cave diving etc

I've lived in Florida for over 20 years now and explore the local area's and have one of my infamous "tacky tourist days" at least once a month.

In the past I've concentrated on my overseas sites but now I've decided to create and update travel tips for the local area.

WELCOME TO G-VILLE HOME OF THE GATORS

by pulgaron

I went to visit my son at The University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and he took me floating down the river at Gennie Springs. A really cool place, literally. The spring water is chilled, but in the 90 degree weather of a Florida summer it feels quite good. If you are any where near Gainesville, this is a good place to spend a lazy afternoon floating down the river.
