~ Hollywood, Florida ~
Just south of Ft. Lauderdale and busy Port Everglades, Hollywood is a bonafide city of more than 100,000 residents with a popular palm tree lined beach. I've passed through both the beach and downtown sides of this city, but never spent time outside of the car here. Centered around the Broadwalk, Hollywood Beach is, like Ft. Lauderdale, a popular family destination. Downtown Hollywood is a hot spot for cafes and restaurants and the opening of the posh Westin Diplomat Spa & Resort several years ago put the city the radar screens of luxury travelers.
In addition to traveling through Hollywood, we also passed through Hallandale, which is smaller but also has a built-up beachfront of condos. The city, which sits just above the Miami-Dade County line, also has an iconic water tower painted to resemble a beach ball.
We passed through another notable city, Dania, between Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale. Several antique stores line US Route 1 in Dania. We also stopped to take a peek at the beach here, but only for a couple of minutes.
Hollywood is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Area.
