The Westin is on the beach and lovely

We stayed in the crowne plaza nearby but this is where the conference was so I spent quite a bit of time in the hotel. I would definitely come back and bring my family for a beach vacation. The grounds are lovely. The staff was very helpful and friendly.

Unique Quality: Right ON THE BEACH!

Living in luxury

Those of us who are simpler people are in awe when they stay at a place like the Westin. To start, the rooms are fabulous, with the "Heavenly" beds and pillows which will ease you into your sleep. The bathrooms are huge, with separate showers, tubs, and toilet areas. There are balconies so you can take in the ocean air. The cleaning crew does a great job of making the room sparkle.

Since this is a resort, there are several dining options available (Asian, Italian, and a steakhouse in the main hotel, seafood across the street). There are also a pair of pools and beach access. Everything is done well, the staff is very friendly.

The one knock I have is the location. You are a mile or two south of the Boardwalk, so if you don't have a car and don't like to walk in the heat of summer, your dining options are limited to the very expensive resort choices.

In summary, you generally get what you pay for, and you're paying a lot at the Westin.

The Westin Diplomat Resort And

We stayed here in February. 2004, wanting a little weekend getaway and enjoyed it very much. The Diplomat has been completely redone recently and is now a gorgeous hotel right on the beach. The hotel is huge and has a couple of restaurants (the sushi place is pretty good), a Starbucks in the lobby, meeting rooms, a spa, shops and a beautiful pool area. Service was good considering that it is such a large hotel.

The Diplomat has become a popular place for parties and conventions and Nikki Marina across the street is the place to go on Thursday nights and Satine, the bar/lounge in the hotel, is pretty popular on Fridays.

The rooms are standard comfortable Westin rooms with the added perk of a large balcony. Get an oceanfront room if possible. You can sit on the balcony and watch the waves and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean.

Nikki Marina

by goingsolo about Nikki Marina

Nikki Marina is an indoor and outdoor restaurant right across the street from the Westin Diplomat hotel. The marina area has an outdoor bar and a couple of shops which surround the large square right by the water. Its a pretty spot for lunch on a sunny day or to hang out in the evening.

The restaurant and bar is most known for its Thursday night bar scene, but the food is pretty good. It is a bit on the pricey side, but you get a nice atmosphere and view along with your meal. We went for lunch and the menu was mostly seafood, with some salads and sandwiches thrown in. The average entree is $15-$18 and its not a great deal of food. But the staff was friendly and the service was great. We were told that there is a Sunday brunch here which sounded interesting, but haven't been back to check it out. The sashimi was fresh and delicious.

Mediocre Italian

by PinkFloydActuary about The Cafe

Located in the Westin Diplomat, I expected this to be everyday food, but for dinner, they serve an Italian menu. The ambience is fairly nice, it's quiet, dimly lit, and looks out onto the pool area of the resort. The waiters are attentive. You'll have a choice of $3 bottles of water to start, followed by a selection of breads and spreads. The menu is pretty diverse, with a lot of different types of Italian dishes. I went with a pasta with fresh tomatoes, basil, and shrimp.

While the food I had was pretty decent, I expected a lot more for the price I paid (about $30 after tip with only the bottle of water.) It simply fell short of my expectations. The Cafe is the most reasonably priced of the on-site restaurants, but the food doesn't justify the price they charge. Try Nikkis Marina across the street.

Felt like a Queen

Just back from long weekend at the Westin Diplomat Resort. This is a beautiful 39 story property. Right when you drive into the driveway, you feel quite welcome. Checkin was easy. Room was huge. Beds were ultra comfy. The most comfortable bed I've ever had in a hotel room.$12 resort fee includes acces to both of the helth clubs and transportation to the Diplomat Country Club where they have the golf course. Bathroom products are very nice. Each room has internet access.Housing keeping was very good and prompt. Hotel is HUGE to say the least. Everything about this property is grand. Elevators to room are very fast. Hotel was sold out while we were there, however because of the magnitude of the property, we never felt it was too crowded. There are quite a few restaurants here. There is also a 24 hour in room dining which was excellent and fast. Everything was perfect from the service to the luxury and decoration of the property, this hotel is definetly what south florida needed.

Wow... I just have to say that everything was great at this hotel. From the service and attention of the staff to the decoration and luxury of the entire hotel. I had a fantastic time and I will recomend this hotel to everyone I know. Very nice rooms, pool area, boutique, and fitness facilities. (Yes they have more than one health club) I LOVED IT Thanks to everyone that made possible this dream come true. Pauline G.

Beautiful Hotel - Very expensive restaurants

by A TripAdvisor Member

We went to the Westin Resort to celebrate our first year anniversary. We started off with duet massages at the Westin Country Club; which I told my husband I can get used to. We had a beautiful oceanfront grand deluxe room. We took advantage of the tub which was overlooking the bedroom and had a romantic bubble bath . The bathroom was my favorite part of the room. Didn't care much for the goose down comforter I thought it was a little heavy for my taste. We had dinner at the Hollywood Prime (talk about expensive). They waiter is more like a salesguy trying to sell us a filet mignon that must have cost $100. My husband had the lambchops; which I tasted and thought they tasted like rotten meat. ($48). I had an african lobster tail; which was not bad. But ($35) for one lobster tail was a little steep. Well enough said my husband spent most of the following day in the bathroom with an upset stomach. The hotel is gorgeous, the views are nice, the pool area is beautiful and romantic. Take a taxi and go elsewhere to eat.

gorgeous and relaxing

My family just returned from The Diplomat from a tennis convention and had a wonderful time. The hotel is breathtaking, the views from your room are are so beautiful ( make sure you get ocean side). I have 2 children ages 3 and 7 and they loved the pools. Our only complaints were the prices at restaurants ( kids menu great and prices good) and the Westin kids club ages are 5 and up so we couldn't enjoy the nicer restaurants. Hollywood was a big dissapointment, drive to Ft. Lauderdale or Miami if you want to leave the hotel. The staff are very friendly, with the acception of one valet attendant who was mad when we didn't have change for his tip (only one time out of a 9 day stay). The "candyman" which my kids named was so nice and gave all of the kids hershey kisses. Joe Theisman was there for the Miami game and Amanda the guest from the tv show Paradise Hotel works at the front desk, which my husband thought was the best thing about the hotel! Fabulous staff and very friendly. We recommend upgrading $40 to get concierge level, great breakfast items and afternoon snack, cheaper than a small breakfast room service order. Would definately come back.

There's another Hollywood?

"Home of the 2006 Actuarial Conference"

The 2006 conference was held in Hollywood, FL (between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale). Due to the location of the conference (the Westin Diplomat), I didn't get to see much of Hollywood other than the beach and a portion of the Boardwalk until my last day. The water, as you can see, was simply beautiful. The excessive heat and humidity of June made things a little uncomfortable, and probably jaded my opinion a little bit.

need hotel help

by nicolaitan

hi, folks - we will be attendinga weekend-long wedding next april, and have choice of hotel rooms at either the diplomat country club golf resort in hallandale or the westin diplomat in Hollywood Beach. We would very much appreciate any comments you might have on these two places. Thanx

Re: need hotel help

My wife & I stayed at the Diplomat (hotel in Hollywood) in June & was very upscale, service was great, rooms were huge (we got a suite), the pool is great & the staff was outstanding. The only thing we knew wouldn't be good was the access to the beach. The hotel is right-up against the ocean when high tide is in.

Now, ifin you are into golf, the Diplomat Country Club is awesome. Same as described above only add the "Spa". The golf course is laid-out for some good golfing. Either place is good, just depends on what you are looking for. Its not cheap & I might add the hotel is located close to downtown & they can have some parties there on Friday & Saturday nights.

thanks so much for your help. we are going to stay on the ocean, since the beach is not so important to us.
