Home of Homestead-Miami International Speedway
"...and not much else"
For most people, Homestead is a blur of a place that one passes on the way to the Keys.
For NASCAR fans, however, it is the ultimate destination, the last stop on the tour. Every year in November, NASCAR's 3 major circuits end the season here with a final blowout weekend.
I was last there in 2001, before the track owners undertook a major renovation. What was once a superwide tire-chewing flat track is now a heartily-banked unique 1.5 mile pure oval. The racing may not necessarily be better - but it sure is FASTER.
With the new championship run-off in place, Homestead should be more popular than it has been in past years. Meaning that tickets may be harder to come by.
The weather is perfect though, and the Sunday race would be a great event to hit on a drive from Miami to the Keys!
A perfect November day...
