VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner): A home away from home... literally!

by Jefie

There are several Websites out there offering houses for rent but I thought I'd post the link to VRBO since that's the one my in-laws used to rent a place in Port Charlotte and it worked out well. There are several reasons that might make you want to consider renting a house instead of staying at a hotel: for an extended stay, it often turns out to be the cheapest option. Also, there are much more options available for people traveling with pets, and families might enjoy having the extra room to let children run around. Personally, what I enjoyed the most was to have the option to stop by the grocery store and cook dinner on the barbecue by the pool every night - it sort of reminded me of my camping trips, and it made for a very relaxing and very comfortable holiday.

Rental homes usually come fully equipped, and some have extra little perks: for example, ours had a swimming pool, a small dock in the backyard and a couple of bicycles, just to name a few.

America's Best Inn: Kissimmee's Worse Hotel

by Michele720

You get what you pay for and this was CHEAP. Cheap and dirty. Views were great. There were a few bugs but that's to be expected in Florida. There was an exception to that rule when the cockroaches came out when the sun went down. I packed my bags and headed home hoping they did not invade my luggage. I did manage to take tons of photos during the day, before I left.

Unique? Cockroaches are not unique but you don't expect them in a hotel.

Belleview Biltmore: One of Forida's Gems

by tddbann

My daughter and I visited this hotel right before it was closed for rennovations. We wanted to get away from the daily commutes and workday stress. Frankly, we wanted a place to reconnect.

She found the place on the internet while we were looking for places to stay. Since I taught Florida History, I was excited about the adventure. She was a bit skeptical since some of the reviews were a bit negative. With some hesitation, we made reservations to stay at the hotel in the Autumn. I am so glad we did!

While the lobby doesn't reflect the history of the hotel, it was pleasantly decorated for the season and ghost tours were in full swing. The room was pleasant and clean and the grounds were beautifully kept. The hallways and shops were an adventure to explore. We also had the pleasure of experiencing a wedding was taking place and enjoyed the excitement of the wedding party as they went on scavenger hunts around the hotel.

While some of the reviews don't reflect our opinions,we have looked forward to the reopening of the hotel. We would like to go back and take our entire family. We are both confident that they would all share our excitement about this landmark.

The grounds are a sight to behold and the food was very good.

Howard Johnsons: Great Location in Saint Augustine

by Florida999

We booked a night at this motel for Memorial Day weekend and found it to be nicer than we expected from other reviews. It was in a great location, right next to the Fountain of Youth, and very close to the Historic Old Town in St. Augustine. For the price, the room was nice. It had new carpet, new paint, new tiles in the bathroom and everything was clean. The staff even called about 15 minutes after we checked in to see if everything was ok. The internet worked, and there was breakfast in the morning.

Location! For the price, I doubt you would find a better one.

Best Beach in the area: Marriott Harbor Beach

by biggbucks2

Marriott Harbor Beach is the best resort there is in FT Lauderdale, the staff are great and make you fill right at home, the beach has to be the cleanest around, one of the beach guys Casey go's out of his way to make your stay as relaxing and worry free as it can be, They never get any better then him, you can tell the care he has for the beach and its guest, So if you want an awsome R&R time head to the beach,

The beach was the cleanest in the area, the staff was freidly and welcoming, pool was great and surf club where you can drop off the kids

Orlando Area: Great Bargains

by faziamack

Recently visted the Epcot center with family and stayed at the Choice hotles' property
Comfort Inn. I was a bit leary about the standard but when I checked in, the experience was
pretty good. I aslo found out that I could take the hotel's free shuttle to Disney and get picked up as well. That saved us the hassle of parking the car and paying for it, plus money if we were to take a cab . If you are travelling with family, it might be a good idea to check with the nearby hotels and see if they provide free shuttle service to points of interest. Party On!!

Free shuttle service helped us quite a bit.

Ambrosia Key West: Great Bed and Breakfast in Key West

by Basaic

When I rate a motel or a bed and breakfast I start with a 3 "Satisfied" then the place and the people add or subtract from there. Good ways to raise the rating of your place is to be in a convenient location to things I want to do, or to have nice, helpful, friendly people working there, or pay attention to the little things, the details. Ambrosia accompishes all three. It is conveniently located to the harbor, the old town and most museums. When I arrived, I was met by a very nice young woman named Lexi. The room had some nice extras like herbal teas and coffees and even an umbrella should it rain. By the pool there are towels, sunscreen and hand lotion for you to use. Lexi even told me I could take a couple of towels with me on my trip to the Dry Tortugas. There is fresh tea available on the patio by the pool along with lots of bottled water. The staff treats you like family and understandably they get a lot of repeat business. I highly recommend staying here during your trip to Key West.

Note that this is not inexpensive; but nothing is in Key West.

Blue Heron resort: Awesome location

by RickL

Excellent suite includes kitchen, 2 baths, awesome views and 4 pools as well as lake access. Wish we had spent more time there!

There is a lake on the grounds just beyond the pool area. From out 25th floor balcony we could see Kissimee and Orlando as well as the fireworks from Disneyworld.

Hilton Marco Island: Barren Marco

by FMJ666

Stunning views, great beeches. Food of high standard.

Nothing is inclusive however, every single thing is additionally chargeable. Broadband, water, towels. Even at the pool, you are required to pay a deposit for the beech towels!
Sub-contracted parking lot really took the ***, some $60 for 4 days!!

Fantastic views from high up in the building.

Marriott Key Largo: Florida, stuck in the '70s

by FMJ666

Large, comfortable beds. Aircon of decent quality. Views not so great. Beech section of hotel very poor. Food at pool bar of average standard. Service is OK. This is supposedly a 4* hotel, it is probably a decent 3*. Probably not the worst place to stay in Key Largo, but hope it is not the best!

Pretty average
