~ Indialantic, Florida ~
Melbourne's best beach town
Appealing Indialantic, connected to Melbourne via US 192, is a favorite local beach with surfers and families. Here, casual "come as you are" local restaurant chains like Long Doggers and the Blueberry Muffin intermingle with oceanfront accommodations and independent surf shops along coastal route A1A. At the town's hub, where US 192 meets A1A, visitors will find a public parking area and small boardwalk just steps away from Starbucks, Cold Stone Creamery, and another favorite local chain: Bizzarro's Pizza. Surf & beachwear shops are also nearby, just across A1A.
Of course, Indialantic's main attraction is the beach itself. In the right light, the Atlantic Ocean takes on a pretty shade of turquoise here, contrasting with the dull gray color of the sand. Be aware, however, that Indialantic is located right in the heart of Florida's best surfing region, so the waves can get a bit turbulent. Another interesting observation is that instead of having the dunes and sea oats that line many Florida beaches, Indialantic's beach is backed by green, leafy vegetation.
