Gone downhill in the Florida Keys
I have been staying at this property since 1968. El Capitan was owned by a boat captain out of Miami. The motel was a Howard Johnson's. When Joe Roth was running Holiday Isle it was great. Now that it has been bought by Sunbraid it has gone in the tank. The sofa in our room was dirty and torn and it was the same one that was there four years ago. They have moved all the palm trees from El Capitan and moved them to a fenced in area that is now off-limits to patrons. It was the best beach on the property and now you can't use it. I understand that Joe offered 65 million for the property and Sunbraid paid 98.25 million. Based on the way they are running the property it seems that it is only a matter of time before they go broke. What a shame!!! Unless it turns around soon, which I doubt, I have stayed there for the last time. We were there for eight days in Jan-Feb and the place was dead. It is a classic example of how you can turn something great into something awful. I would not recommend this property to anyone.

Best Tiki Bar in the Keys
At the end of long day on the water, the Holiday Isle Tiki Bar was a very welcome sight! We stayed aboard our boat, LEMMIWINKS, in a nicely sized conveniently located transient slip. The highlights of our stay were of course the Tiki Bar, the georgeous sunsets and a great raw bar, everything contained in the compound, no driving required. With accomodations both on land and in the water, it had everything we wanted and we can't wait to go back! Maybe we'll see some of you guys there!
Unique Quality: Containing everything you might need, food, bar (with entertainment), marine supplies, souvenirs, etc. not to mention the awesome sunsets ( which can be viewed from a Tiki Treehouse!), a fun place for families, couples and singles.

Holiday Isle Beach Resort
The Holiday Isle Resort is part of a large complex which includes the Tiki Bar and a large marina. if you want to stay in the center of it all, this is the place to go. From here, you can rent charter boats and jetskis or simply lie around and soak up the sun.
The hotel, like most in the area, is little more than a standard motel. Rooms have air conditioning, which is a must for the unbearably hot summer nights. But location is the real draw here.
Unique Quality: Location. The hotel is walking distance from the marina, shopping, the Tiki Bar and the beach.

Fort Lauderdale in the Keys
As you drive down the Overseas Highway, passing mangroves and tidy villages, suddenly you pass a small city. Gas, restaurant, shops, marina and motel rooms. Lots of them.
Holiday Isle is really a dozen buildings on many oceanfront acres. A go-go-go, big-time resort in the mid-Keys. Hundreds of rooms, from parking-lot standards to oceanfront apartments with full kitchens.
In season, you will pay.
Unique Quality: Caters to the escape-from-Miami crowd, both families and singles. An odd mix. No discernable organized activities. Don't miss the mermaid mural in the tiki bar. Visit the gazebo at the end of the dock, very romantic after sunset.
Plusses- Tiki bar, raw bar, shops, nice pool and beach, a great hook-up spot after the kids go to bed.

Holiday Isle - Something for everyone!
We stayed at Holiday Isle for a dive trip. The Rooms were clean and kept clean throughout our stay. Check in and out was quick and easy and all of the staff were friendly.
I understand that during the spring break season this place can get out of control with partying. If that's not your thing you may want to plan around that.
Unique Quality: Holiday Isle is a resort that has something for everyone. The Resort is composed of several buildings that vary in price structure.
There are several bars, volleyball courts, pools, shopping, on-site dive shop and of course a great beach.

A room with a Rodent!
Don't bother going to this hotel, the photo's of this place are very deceiving, it looks great on paper. The place is old, run down and the rooms are awful. On check in we discovered rodent droppings in the room and a large portion of the carpet chewed (very scary considering we were told that housekeeping had just finished cleaning the room). On further inspection we found a large rodent in one of the double beds in the room and very very quickly checked out and left! When we arrived back in the UK we discovered they had charged us for a 2 night stay and it took numerous emails, faxes and telephone calls to get a refund, this eventually was done after 4 weeks of wrangling! Other reviews I have read about this hotel are just as bad.

Holiday Isle Resort
Unique Quality: This is a city in itself with it's own beach, tiki bar, marina, and restaurants. Quite the crazy scene it is on weekends too!
We spent the week after Christmas at Holiday Isle and had a great vacation with our four teenagers. We booked our 2 bedroom suite with kitchen 9 months prior to our stay and did not read the hotel reviews until two weeks before our arrival. I was very worried about our hotel choice and spent two days trying to book a nice resort for 6 people from Palm Beach to Key West with no success. I was pleasantly suprised when we arrived at Holiday Isle. The rooms are dated, but very clean and comfortable. The housekeeping staff was excellent and attentive, as was the front desk staff. There is plenty to do on the resort grounds. Although the beach front is open to the public, we found it very pleasant and family oriented. We will certainly return to Holiday Isle if we vacation in the Keys again.
Yuck

I was just looking online for a place for this spring break and I came across Holiday Isle. My husband and I and our two kids stayed there last spring break and we WILL NOT be going there this year. I just now thought to write about this place. The brochures are REALLY decieving. The place is serious need of updated. Our room was not clean and was never cleaned while we were there. I would not let my kids sit on the carpet and wasnt real thrilled with them hanging around on the beds. No visible bugs--just Yuck! Not clean, old--=Yuck! We had no problem with theft--just very disappointed in the overall feel of the place. Definitly not a resort. IF you stay there -- you will be diappointed.

Holiday Isle is great. You can watch the charter boats come in with their catch of fish, drink rum runners w/o having to get in you car and drive afterwards, look at all the people, rents boats, go on charter or party fishing boats. Lots to do and fun to have. I did not know there was more than one hotel there.
