Decent Budget Motel

This is a decent looking motel near the Jacksonville Airport. It has a few extras like a Refrigerator and a Microwave and a nice pool. There is the typical breakfast available. The staff was professional enough. Pretty good for the money. $50 as of April 2011.

Travel Tips for Jacksonville

Another Jax tree lighting -- beach style

by noidiotsplease

While not as tall or celebrated as Jacksonville's official Christmas tree at the Landing, the tree at Beach Town Center has a unique feel of its own. Surrounded by towering palm trees instead of skyscrapers and backed by the beach instead of the river, the Town Center tree stands as a more relaxed and modest sentinal of the season. The tree and other decorations that illuminate Beach Town Center exude the very friendly village-style Christmas charm of yesteryear. The only difference is that people here go surfing instead of ice skating.

Fuller Warren Bridge

by noidiotsplease

The most non-descript looking of Jacksonville's major bridges, the eight-lane Fuller Warren is also the most heavily traveled. That's because it carries Interstate 95 across the St. Johns River. The many drivers who traverse this bridge also get a spectacular view of both the Northbank and Southbank sides of the the Jacksonville skyline.

Would you believe that before the current bridge was built there stood a four-lane drawbridge in its place! And for many years (until the 1980s) that four-lane drawbridge carrying a major interstate highway also had toll booths -- what a bottleneck! Fortunately, today's bridge is a vast improvement. It's eight lanes of smooth-riding scenic vistas -- a far cry from its predacessor.

Best Pad Thai in town!

by Jenniedilly9 about Pattaya Thai

This Thai eatery is one of the best kept secrets in town. It's scrumptious AUTHENTIC Thai cuisine is to die for. Better Pad Thai than the upscale"Lemongrass." Very casual dining...YUM! Pad Thai, coconut soup

Jacksonville's water park and amusement center

by noidiotsplease

Located a couple blocks from the Intracoastal in Jacksonville Beach, Adventure Landing is a popular water park and amusement center. On the wet side of the park, visitors can intertube, swim and slide on a variety of water attractions including a very unique "uphill" waterslide. On the dry side, visitors can enjoy go karts, miniature golf, batting cages, arcade games and an awesome laser tag area.

While the wet side opens during the spring and closes in the fall, the dry side stays open year round.

Amelia Island

by runnelspl

This trip mixed business and pleasure. The business part was indoors. The pleasure part was outdoors and consisted of activities selected from a 'menu' of possibilities. My wife accompanied me and we selected horseback riding, parasailing, and day sailing. Hurricane Michelle (2001) had just passed to the South and disintigrated over the mid-Atlantic Ocean. The weather was slightly cool, but clear. The sunrises were spectacular! We stayed at the Ritz Carlton on the beach - and what a beach - it had been eroded towards the southern end by Michelle, but was long, broad, flat, and firm - Not too many natural locations on this part of the island - mostly built up with hotels, condo's and beach houses. We enjoyed ourselves immensely. The Ritz-Carlton is a bit pricey, but the service was fantastic and the staff was the most accommodating I have ever experienced.
