There's a cluster of hotels on Mustang Rd. / Butler Blvd., about 10 mins from Downtown JAX, and Microtel is one of them. Nothing special about this 2-star hotel, but what impressed me was its super-friendly and funny staffs. Although Microtel is targeted to people with cars, but if you don't...no worries, a bus stop is just a block away. The area also has some restaurants, like Applebee's, Waffle House, Wendy's, McDonald's, and Taco Bell. It's perfect as a lower-cost accommodation, since all the hotels Downtown (except Extended Stay America) are over $150 a night!!

It's a small but friendly place. One of the least expensive (with a good quality) you can find.
