December Visit

by princessofnot

Will be visiting Jacksonville in December of this year and would love to attend an NFL game while there. Any helpful hints on the best way to obtain tickets would be most appreciated. Also how is your public transportation ?

Hi there - we go to Jacksonville every December to go to a game as well as Tampa to watch the Buccs. Tickets come out around August and can be bought from Ticketmaster or on e-bay (make sure they ship to England if thats where you are). To be honest the games at Jacksonville dont sell well and if you can not get a ticket you will always get one on the day from someone outside the ground. Having said that we have always managed to get tickets for both Jags and Buccs. Word of warning though last year as usual got sunburned at Tampa but just 7 days before at Jacksonville I was wearing a jumper, fleece, coat, scarf and gloves, however we have been lucky before and dropped on good weather even in December. We will be going to the Oakland game in Jacsonville on 12 December this year so may see you there. Please feel free to ask any other queries you may have about going to games as it really is easy and I am sure you will love it

Plan on a short five day cruise out of Jacksonville prior to the Jaguars game .. hoping for a GREAT time ! Will be arriving at the Amtrak station and then flying out the Monday after the game.

Wow ! Thanks for all the info. As a matter of fact I will be coming for the Dec. 12th game (hoping that I won't be eaten alive by the Jag fans !) ... since I will not have a vehicle while there I am also wondering how game day public transportation works and how accessable it is . Went to a Miami game a couple of years ago and was very surprised by how cool it was down there.

Not sure about public transport as we always go by car but I have always seen lots of shuttle buses that look like they may come in from Jacksonville. May be worth contacting the local tourist information I am sure they would be able to help.

Just got off the phone with local transportation people. They were somewhat helpful and said that there is a gameday shuttle going to the game ($48.00) which seems a little pricey .. and no return available ! But I figure where there's a will there's a way. So I have no doubt I will get there !

Great Location

by Visconti about American Cafe (2 locations)

Love the American Cafe at the Landing. When the weather is good, it's definitely one of my favorite places to go. If you eat outside, you have an excellent view of downtown right along the St. John's River.

Eatery brings mountain lodge theme to Jacksonville

by noidiotsplease about Bear Rock Cafe

A gourmet sandwich place similar to Panera or Atlanta Bread Company in menu, Bear Rock Cafe is in a rare class when it comes to decor. While outside the view across the lake includes pastel colored apartment buildings and young magnolia trees, inside the theme is all northwestern mountain lodge, complete with a chandelier made of antlers and a stone fireplace surrounded by art depicting mountain wildlife. In a city famous for beaches, palms and marshlands, Bear Rock Cafe offers a decidedly different character.

The Bear Rock Cafe is located in an upscale, multi-building shopping complex in the bustling Tinseltown/Deerwood area, a popular neighborhood known for office parks, hotels, its namesake multiplex theater and a very high concentration of restaurants. Smoked turkey and Swiss cheese on ciabatta bread.
