My Stay at Studio 6 - A Letter
Hello,
My name is LXXXX NXXXXXX. I am staying at the Studio 6 in Jacksonville, FL room 227. I wanted to email you, so I typed gmail.com into my browser. I waited nearly 2 minutes in the basic html view for gmail to load. Seriously, it loaded quicker with my 2400bps modem over dialup.
Any modern traveler needs access to the internet in order to stay in communications. I can't use Skype with this connection. I can't visit any sort of multimedia website. I can't even visit text sites that update comment automatically - the 5kbps of traffic they generate completely overwhelms the connection.
To add insult to injury, in every other motel I have used in the last 10 years the internet connection was free. I have to PAY to get something that frankly is not worth the 4.95 a week I pay - 3 people paying would pay for a 10Mbps cable modem account.
Talking to the technical support people is an exercise in futility - the only action they are capable of performing is rebooting access points. They claim this will "help connection speeds" when this is manifestly untrue - speaking as a software developer I know it only help if you can't connect at all.
You may have noticed I also CCed your Press Room. This is just my helpful way of saying I will disseminate this information as widely as I possibly can. The moldy smelling room, rock hard bed and dysfunctional refrigerator I accepted as par for the course but the lack of a way to see my wife and kids cannot be tolerated.
Who knows, maybe you can also make the news for how quickly and courteously you respond to my problem.

A Hotel Conversion, Not A NEW Location
When I arrived I expected to find this hotel to be a newly constructed hotel, considering that Motel 6 just launched the "Studio 6 Extended Stay Hotel" at the end of the 1990's. I was wrong. The hotel was an old Motel 6 that had the rooms converted into studio suites (they took the rooms and added a stove, kitchen style sink, microwave, and fridge). They also added a clock radio to the bedside table, since regular Motel 6 rooms do not have clock radios. (Directly across the street from the hotel is an old 1 story motel that was converted into a Motel 6 when this hotel was converted into a Studio 6) The room was comfortable, clean, and everything worked fine. Outdoor Pool was nice (although it was a cold January weekend in North Florida, so i didnt use it). Overall my only complaint is that there isnt a 24 hour front desk. Its open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Except Sunday, when it is open from Noon to 10. OVERALL.... I would surely stay there again. But im moving to Jacksonville, so i'd recommend visitors to stay there... Safe part of town, friendly front desk staff, and with I-95 right there it is easy to get north and south quickly. I-295 is 3 minutes south.
