The lighthouse keeper's house has burned down, but there remains this small cemetery. The small cemetery which contains stillborn or young children of the lighthouse keepers is on the grounds of Jupiter Lighthouse which is located on the northern bank of the Loxahatchee River in Jupiter Lighthouse Park in the city of Jupiter
Jupiter exists in the Northern part of Palm Beach county away from most of the hustle and bustle of central and south county cities like West Palm and Boca Raton. The people here are laid back, there are beautiful views, good un-trendy restaurants and a big bright red lighthouse.
There is great wealth in Jupiter. Perhaps more so than the island of Palm Beach or Boca, but it's not overt. And that's what makes this area casual, yet sophisticated.
You'll find quite a bit of natural beauty here too. If in the area, be sure to visit Jonathan Dickinson State Park (16450 S.E. Federal Highway Hobe Sound, FL). It boasts a vast and scenic recycled material boardwalk to the ocean which I love!
And John D. MacArthur Beach State Park, for canoeing through natural Florida vegetation.

After an extensive restoration in 1999-2000, the lighthouse is again open for tours. Tours are given Sunday through Wednesday 10 AM - 4 PM with the last tour departing at 3:15. Meet at the visitor's center/gift shop which is located just outside the gate. They also show a brief film about the history of the lighthouse. There is a fee for the tour.
You can only go inside the lighthouse as part of a guided tour, and each tour takes about 45 minutes to an hour. To go inside the lighthouse you must be at least four feet tall and you must war shoes with back support (i.e., no flip-flops etc.).
If the musuem is closed, distant views of the lighthouse can be had from outside the gate of the museum, from the park on the entrance road, from the bridge over the waterway (watch out for traffic) and from the restaruants on the south side of the inlet. The homes around the base of the lighthouse are housing for Coast Guard personnel -- please be polite and don't ask them to give tours!
Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is administered by the Florida History Center & Museum. The lighthouse is owned and maintained as an active maritime aid to navigation by the U.S. Coast Guard.
For more information, call the lighthouse's information number at (407) 747-8380.
