~ Kendall, Florida ~
South of Miami, Interstate 95 merges into US Route 1, and the result is a congested sea of stop lights, commercial strips, and traffic. While en route between Miami and the Florida Keys, US 1 slices through a variety of suburban communities including Kendall, which has its own central business district of office buildings. Amidst this mass of suburban sprawl are several malls including The Falls. As the name suggests, The Falls features waterfall landscaping as part of its allure; unfortunately, I don’t remember being very allured by its retail offerings. The Miami Metro Zoo, which I did not get to see, and Matheson Hammock beach park are also located in this sector of the county.
To avoid the congested mess of Kendall and South Miami, when driving to the Keys, take the Florida Turnpike Extension. It forms a western beltway around Miami and Kendall, eventually ending in Florida City.
Kendall is part of the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale Metropolitan Area.
