More about Ocean Beach Club

Okay, but some problems

by TripAdvisor Member Lodalady

My husband and I just returned from our first visit to the Keys. We stayed three nights at the Ocean Beach Club in Marthon Florida. Over all, the hotel was small and quaint. The staff was fantastic and the grounds were neat and very clean. The room, on the other hand was not what I would have preferred.

In the staff's defense, I looked at the room before excepting it and returned to the desk and requested a room with a king bed, which they didn't have as all regular rooms have two queen beds. In the small space there were two queen beds, a desk, and a chair, but no way to place the chair in front of the TV, which sat on the desk, so there was no place to sit at a flat surface either, but it was late, and we accepted the room.

The room was dated and cramped, even with plenty of storage.

We stayed at this hotel thinking we would not be in the room much anyway, and one night wouldn't have been bad, but if you are planning an extended stay at this hotel, choose a room big enough to turn around in.

Never want to leave...

My husband and two children (8 & 10) enjoyed 3 fabulous nights at the ocean beach club. It truely was as represented on their website. We stayed in a suite on the third floor, which was spacious and clean and meet all our needs. All the rooms are ocean front so the view is wonderful no matter where your room. The pool was very warm, the wind was pretty stiff the first two days, but the nice thing is the pool is shielded with pexiglass on the railing around the pool to block the wind somewhat. My husband and children spent a lot of time fishing the pier at the adjacent restraunt/bar, they were successful in catching some fish. Would highly recommend and can't wait to go back!!

Nice stay, excellent situation

We stayed at the Ocean beach resort for 2 nights. We got room# 301 (close to the lift & stairs but didn't have any noise problem) which is supposed to be an island (parking lot) view room but we had a partial (side) sea view from there... so it's better to save your money for other things. The room is quite simple but clean. Beach & pool area are simply perfect, it was a bit windy but the pool was (well) heated so we enjoyed a lot ! It's also a nice place to enjoy breakfast with a wonderful seaview. The only problem we had is that the A/C was a bit noisy and badly placed (next to the the bed) so it's not really usable if you don't want to be "frozen". In conclusion, an excellent stay at Key Colony, we'll come back again if we have the opportunities ;-)

Not Worth the Price

by TripAdvisor Member crocogator

At $200 a night, we expected more than we got -- perhaps because my family had never stayed in the keys before (we're from Bradenton, Florida), we didn't know what to expect in terms of pricing.

Our $200 room was on the 3rd floor, facing the ocean. A window A/C unit hung right above one of the two queen beds. The linens had apparently not been changed: we found sand under the sheets, as well as leftover flip flops and an empty juice box under the bed.

Nothing much beyond a motel really, the remote control for the TV didn't work and few towels were provided (one washcloth and two smaller sized towels). It just didn't seem clean.

I would have enjoyed staying in this room had the price been more reasonable ... given the location, I would say $60-80.

Loved it!

Stayed in late april with hubby and teenage daughter. Room was slightly small, but had added area with mini kitchen type area, with fridge, coffeemaker, closet and shelves. Room was decorated in keys tropical style and was very clean and fresh. The VIEW was wonderful-we were on the ocean side, and there was a small balcony/room access that we sat on day and night just loving the water side location. The seaweed on the beach was cleaned up regularly. The pool was spotless and nice and heated, the staff was super helpful-directing us to local restaurants an giving us lots of extra pool towels.LOved the location, loved the hotel, loved the great restaurant /tiki bar next door. Only complaint was WIFI only really available in lobby or out on patio by the pool. At night there was a gaggle of teens on their laptops, quietly tapping away, as no one got the WIFI in their room-including us. Planning to return next year!

Some good bits but not a place i would stay at again

by TripAdvisor Member kibrisjason

The hotels location is great and the pool was fantastic, what really let this place down was the poor standard of the rooms, it really was dissapointing that for $220 plus dollars a night you were in no better than a very dated motel room.

The tiki bar next door was fantastic and we had a superb dinner there with live music as well. I read about the tiki bar on trip advisor i think it was called bahia something?

would i stay here again? no but i am glad i tried it at least once.

Best Place for the Best Price

My boyfriend and I wanted a short weekend getaway (we live in south Florida) and this was the perfect place! I think that May was part of the off-season because the place was empty- very quiet and secluded. We paid a total for 2 nights with tax $280. The Tiki bar was attached to the pool area, which was perfect, and the food at the restaurant right there was great. The room was clean and never had one issue. Even in the most standard room, we had a microwave and fridge. Make sure to stay on the 2nd or 3rd floor, so you can get that great view! We even saw dolphins jumping out of the water one morning. We would definitely stay at this hotel again. Hands down.

This hotel was our midpoint stop during our trip from Key West to Key Largo. The hotel is most certainly not a resort. It is best described as an original Florida hotel on a nice little beach.
The hotel is very "tired" and the rooms are in need of a serious upgrade which should include bedding and towels, tiles, furniture, paint and most importantly, the bathroom. The phone and the TV remote did not work. The air conditioner was very loud.
On the plus side, the little bar and restaurant next door was quite nice and on the beach. On the down side, there was nowhere nearby to get breakfast (had to drive back in to Marathon, and then the choices were few and unattractive).
The final disappointment (an understatement) was finding a cockroach in my coffee which I got from the lobby.

Great place, Inexpensive, Clean and really nice staff

by TripAdvisor Member mufc100

We came across Ocean Beach Club by accident. We were looking for a beachside hotel with a pool and a beach to sit on. Its not easy finding good beaches in the keys, most water front is rocks and boulders.. This hotel has a cute private beach, a private fishing pier and good restaurants arounf. The hotel was reasonably priced, clean and a place that we have been back to repeatedly since.

I strongly recommend this as a cheap get-away hotel.
