More about Coconut Palm Inn
Quiet Retreat in The Fllorida Keys
I stayed at the Coconut Palm Inn. I had a tremendous experience. The rooms and bathrooms seem to have been completely redone with upgraded features and ample living space. The grounds were well taken care of and the staff was quite courteous through the entire stay . Some of our favorite features were the ability to launch a boat and keep it behind the inn safely for the duration of our stay, which enabled us to explore much of Florida bay and Flamingo, the quite calm atmosphere and incredible sunsets. I was a bit apprehensive after reading some of the reviews, some of which were completely unfounded...crazy but it seems some people would be better in a hyperbaric chamber than a destination that offers a true glimpse of the Florida Keys. If you expect Disney go there instead!!
Way To Go
Our grandchildren are coming to visit for the Christmas Holidays. On their last visit in July we spent four glorious days in the Keys. Returning to the city was an emotional event for us all. We didn't want to leave our friends, the laid-back life style, or the safe, welcoming environment of the Inn. One of my newly married daughters joined me and the ten year-old twins. My daughter's friend from grade school, high school and her matron of honor spent the whole week with her two young sons. The four children spent the entire visit fishing, swimming, boating, and resting on the sandy shore line. Never once did they complain "There's nothing to do." There were many activities available in the Keys, however the children did not want to miss one day of fishing. We adults were so happy to find a vacation spot where the children were happy and engaged in healthy outdoor activities. The Inn staff and other guests made us feel like family. Morning breakfast under the Chickee Hut thatched roof, watching the water lap the shoreline was a pleasant way to start the day. The children helped themselves as we lingered over our juice and coffee and contemplated the events of the day. A short wallk to the shopping mall filled our exercise plan and rewarded us with a bookstore and Keys shopping. It was a time of outdoor activities for the children. For me, it was a time with pleasant adult company, a time for slowing down and being present to the riches of sky, water, rustling palm trees, and no place to be but where I was. We left Coconut Palm Inn promising to return; which we are returning the day after Christmas. "Save the green hammock by the shoreline for me." If anyone wants a quiet refuge from the hectic life of the city, Coconut Palm Inn is the place for you with your children or just by yourself.
What a great vacation at this tropical paradise !
I stayed at the Coconut Palm Inn for 4 nights in July 2007 with a friend of mine. We were in Patio Room Nr 4 with 2 twin beds. The rooms are very clean, decorated with tropical flair, bathrooms are brandnew. Very very nice. We had our own screened patio with a beautiful view on the water. The beach and pool is very lush and tropical with lots of coconut palms. The grounds are very well kept. From 8-10 am they serve a free continental breakfast by the pool. Very good coffee !!! The breakfast is simple, but very good. Coffee, orange juice, milk, cereal, muffins, bagles, granola bars, cream-cheese,jam+ local newspaper. We had breakfast every morning on the beach. Great !!! The coconutpalm Inn has only 20 rooms and we just saw a few other guests. Its absolutely quiet and peaceful here. This is not a place if you are looking to party.
The Inn also has a 300 feet long dock for boats, but there weren't any boats. We took a chair and sat out on the dock overlooking the water and watching the sunset. It was so beautiful. This would be a great place for a romantic getaway. You can book this hotel only by calling them directly. They don't need to advertise. This is very small place, only 20 rooms including two bedroom suites, one bedroom suites and regular rooms. We had the patio room Nr 4 which was great.
The hotel staff is very very helpful and friendly and gives you lots of recommodations for local restaurants, activities ......
This Inn is approx. 8 Miles from Key Largo. I also went diving in Key Largo and can highly recommend : [--]. They also speak german and spanish there. They have good prices and you are going diving with just a few other people. Not like others where you go on the big boats with 20 other divers. They are very professionell and very patient with inexperienced divers. My friend went snorkeling on the same boat while I was diving. Since I live in Orlando, I will be back soon again to stay at the Coconutpalm Inn and will be diving again with Scuba-fun. For a great breakfast, lunch or dinner I can recommend the : [--]. Less than 10 min from the hotel.
Good Sandwiches, wraps, seafood, dessert and lots more. We also went to Snappers Restaurant in the evening and did not like it. Very expensive and food was not that great. I hope this review helped.
Wonderful little retreat!!
My husband and I stayed here for two nights on our recent trip to the Keys. Out of the four hotels that we stayed in this one was our favorite. Yes, the room was very small, but it was clean and nicely decorated. We loved having a mini kitchenette. We also really enjoyed the grounds. The beach area and pool were lovely and relaxing. The staff was excellent and gave us great recommendations on things to do and places to eat. They helped us steer away from a lot of the over priced "tourist traps". Without a doubt we would stay here again.
If your idea of good service is standing at the "courtesy" desk for 10 minutes waiting for the proprietor to complete a personal phone call to address you to no avail, then this place is for you.
If disrobing and, luckily, entering the bathroom to hear improperly assigned new customers enter your room is something you desire, then come on down!
If ensuring their hurricane policy before booking then having to leave a day early due to hurricane Humberto without a refund as assured, by all means stay here. And....
If no less than five phone calls to rectify these problems went unaddressed then book today!
Otherwise, stay anywhere else in Key Largo!!
Not worth anywhere near the price
Well, let's start with the good thing, the motel is on the water and is in a somewhat quiet location away from the highway. But other than that, the hotel has many big shortcomings, especially given the high prices they charge for these rooms:
- cigarette smoke seeps into your room (even with all your windows fully closed!) from neighboring rooms, so having a "no smoking" room means nothing
- if you have noisy neighbors (we did), you will hear EVERYthing they do and say in their rooms, on their porch, and running around outside
- plumbing and fixtures are broken and in very bad shape, water pressure is a trickle, cleanliness is so-so
- no telephones in room, mattress is old and saggy
- maid service does not replace bed sheets (even when visibly dirty) and takes away used towels, but does not replace them
- "breakfast" is plastic-wrapped muffins from discount store, white flour generic bagels, some frozen concentrate o.j., and below average coffee. and you better get up early, things run out real quick
This location has some potential, but the proprieters don't do what it takes to make it a great or even good place. Too bad.
We stayed at the Coconut Palm for a couple of nights in February. We got in late at night and couldn't see very well and were a little disappointed. However, the next morning we were pleasantly surprised! The private, quiet beach was wonderful. There were hammocks for relaxing and the pool was very nice. There were pavilions with tables for lunching by the shore, kayaks available for guests and a simple breakfast in the morning. Our room was smallish, but clean and quaint. Other rooms were VERY large -- so it depends on what you need. Our bathroom was very nice with a HUGE tiled shower. For fun we tested it out and could fit 5 adults in it -- if you needed to :)
If you want a secluded, quiet vacation without a lot of frills (and I don't mean that negatively) ...this place is an excellent choice.
PS we were there for a wedding, which was beautiful...
The Perfect Setting
so you walk out of your room and all your senses are telling you: you have found the promise land.
hamicks are available between the palm trees right on the small(but adequate) private beach. Barbeque stands are available for your "hook & cook". the private dock could not be more romantic at night, even if you are like me and do not have a boat. And the only thing seperating between your room patio and the beach is...the pool. oh well. Breakfast is adequate and plantyful. The rooms are clean and private and the paddle boat and the kayacks are free. So what else can you ask for? We were happy.
Great relaxed place...
We were a group there for a meeting and ended up with 4-5 rooms in all.
They were totally accomodating and the place was simple, relaxed and generally just great!
